A Trion man was arrested in Floyd County after authorities say he illegally dumped a large amount of debris along Sikes Story Road.

According to reports, Terry Wayne McWhorter, 46, of Trion, cleaned out a storage unit and discarded multiple items onto private property before leaving the scene. Investigators say McWhorter had purchased a storage unit in Gordon County that had been auctioned off due to non-payment. After loading the contents into the bed of his truck, reports state he drove to Sikes Story Road and dumped the items onto the property.

Law enforcement officials said the materials left behind included furniture, assorted trash, and old case files believed to be from a law enforcement agency, raising additional concerns about the nature of the items abandoned at the site. The dumping was reported, prompting an investigation that ultimately led to McWhorter’s arrest in Floyd County.

McWhorter has been charged with illegal dumping. No additional charges were announced at the time of his arrest, and authorities have not released further details about the origin of the case files found among the discarded items.
