Warmer temperatures are bringing more visitors to James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park in Summerville, with park officials reporting an increase in both day-use guests and campers in recent weeks.
Park Manager Katy Gramling said she has enjoyed seeing more people at the park, with many visitors arriving ready to fish. She also said campgrounds have been especially busy, with most weekend camping reservations in March nearly full, though some weekday spots are still available.
With Spring Break now underway and summer not far off, Gramling says visitors are already making plans ahead. Campsites are now being booked for the summer season as more families and outdoor enthusiasts look to take advantage of the park’s popular setting.
The rise in attendance comes as northwest Georgia begins to warm up after a recent blast of colder weather. The National Weather Service says highs are expected to reach the upper 70s today and climb into the 80s this weekend as spring arrives.
