A 25-year-old woman was arrested on a shoplifting charge following an incident reported January 2, 2026, according to a Chattooga County law enforcement report.
The report identifies the suspect as Brittany Starr Laughlin. Deputies were dispatched to a local Walmart Asset Protection office regarding a suspected shoplifting incident. Investigators allege Laughlin concealed several items inside a child’s diaper bag and also skipped scanning additional merchandise at a self-checkout register. The total value of the items was listed at more than $230.
According to the report, Laughlin admitted she knew what she was doing and reportedly described where she had concealed the items and where she skipped scanning merchandise. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chattooga County Jail.
The report further notes Laughlin was issued a criminal trespass warning and banned from Walmart stores across the region.
