Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio earlier this week that he plans to keep a campaign pledge and hold regular monthly meetings for the public. Winters said that the idea of a monthly meeting is to keep the public informed and updated as well as give residents a chance to voice concerns with their county government. Winters has not set a date for the first of the monthly meetings, but plans to do so in the near future.

Calhoun Police are reporting that a body was found behind K Mart in Calhoun yesterday afternoon.
The body of a white male, estimated to be in his late teens or early 20s, was discovered behind the store on the edge of a woodline around 3 p.m. It was found by a person driving on a cut-through road behind the building.
Authorities have sent the body to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for investigation and identification. Police say there was no wallet or ID with the body, so they are working to identify the victim.
The case is being worked as a homicide.
The storm system moving through the area during the past couple of days brought more than five inches of rain to the Weiss Lake watershed causing sudden rising of the lake level which many residents enjoy this time of year but now the question is when will the lake stop rising and at what level will it reach.
Alabama Power spokesperson Gina Warren stated the cresting of the lake should be late Thursday, January 8th at some 566 feet above sea level. The normal summer full pool elevation is 564 feet which means the lake could get two feet above the full mark.
Property owners around the lake should take the precautions necessary to protect their boats and other property in the lake easement.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Department and WRCB Channel 3 Eyewitness News Crimestoppers are offering $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer.

“So that is a total of $2,000 that has been committed,” he said. “We have petitioned GBI for some reward money, so we are hopeful dangling some reward money out there might motivate someone to talk to us about this crime.”

The Goody’s Family Clothing store’s in Rome, Cartersville and Calhoun will be shutting down over the course of the next couple of months. A store employee in Rome confirmed that the 30 or so employees have been given notice of plans by the Knoxville based company to liquidate all of their assets after successfully emerging from bankruptcy in October.
Sales during the holiday season apparently were not sufficient to re-energize the company which was a family operation for most of it’s 55 years.
The company became a privately held company in 2006. Outside liquidators are expected to handle the reduction of the company’s merchandise over the next 60-150 days.
