Autopsy Report in 3 Year Old Murder Victim Case Expected in 30 Days

An official cause and manner of death in the homicide investigation of 3-year-old Ella Camp is expected within 30 days, authorities said.

Ella died Sept. 19 after being rushed to Children’s at Scottish Rite Pediatric Hospital in Atlanta.

David Zachary Gresham, the 20-year-old boyfriend of Ella’s mother at the time, faces a murder charge in connection with the girl’s death. Police have said there are no other suspects in the homicide investigation.

The official cause and manner of Ella’s death — why she died and under what circumstances — remain unknown.

“The official cause and manner have not been determined,” Coroner Barry Henderson said.

The time needed to determine autopsy results varies, Henderson said. Results for a heart attack victim might take 10 days.

“In a case like this, it takes longer,” Henderson said.

According to police reports, Gresham had been with Ella on Sept. 17 before he took the girl and her family to Floyd Medical Center about 11:25 a.m. that day. Ella was unresponsive and had extreme head trauma.

Gresham then left the area and was not located at the time, reports state.

Ella was flown that day to Children’s at Scottish Rite Pediatric Hospital.

Gresham was arrested Sept. 18 on a probation warrant. Ella died the following day.

Initially held in the Floyd County Jail, Gresham is now incarcerated without bond at the Polk County Jail.

Georgia Wins $22K Settlement with Kmart

Attorney General Sam Olens has announced that Georgia has joined with other states, territories, and the federal government to reach an agreement with Kmart Corporation to settle allegations that Kmart submitted false claims and false statements through its Kmart Pharmacy Centers to the federal government, state governments, and territories for payments relating to partial fills of prescriptions. Kmart will pay the states, the territories and the federal government a total of $2.55 million in civil damages and penalties to compensate Medicaid, Medicare and various federal healthcare programs for harm suffered as a result of its conduct.

As part of the settlement, the State of Georgia will receive approximately $22,000 in restitution and other recovery.

Kmart is alleged to have violated the False Claims Act by billing government health care programs (Medicaid, Tricare and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program) for all drugs included in a prescription when, for many prescriptions, it dispensed only a portion of the prescribed drugs. Although billed in full to the government health care programs, the remaining portion of the prescriptions was never dispensed to beneficiaries and was later returned to stock.

This settlement is based on a qui tam whistleblower case that was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan by a private individual who filed the action under the federal false claims statute.
