Mrs. Regina D. Jennings Smith, age 39, of Menlo, GA, died Friday, October 25, 2013, at her residence.
Mrs. Smith was born November 15, 1973, daughter of James Lamar and Betty Ruth Williamson Jennings. She attended Liberty Baptist Church and was the manager of Subway Restaurant in Summerville.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Terry Earl Smith; mother and step-father Betty Ruth Williamson Jennings and Gary Bailey; father and step-mother, James Lamar and Reba Jennings; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha Denyse Smith and Zack Dotson; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry Allan and Angel Smith, Aaron Dakoda Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Christian Jennings, Chriss and Heather Clark Bailey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan Renee Jennings and Keith Davis, Tina Jennings Roderick and Houston Elders; granddaughters, Anahlie Smith, Leilahni Smith, Carleigh Stoker, and Marleigh Stoker.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 27, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Stephen Payne and Min. Brian Williams officiating.
Mrs. Smith will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday.

For the week of Oct.15 – Oct. 21, 2013, Chattooga County Animal Control reports it investigated 13 cases, impounded 7 animals, stray animals turned in were 5, returned 1 animals to their owners, adopted 4 animals, and euthanized 2 dogs and 1 feral cats.
Animals that have been picked up or brought to Chattooga County Animal Control may be available for adoption or rescue after a three day holding period, which allows time for owner reclaims. Chattooga County Animal Control is located off Hwy. 100 at 464 Red Oak Road. From Summerville, turn left on Red Oak Road before you get to Georgia Power. The Center is located at the end of the road on the right. The adoption fee for male dogs is $75, female dogs $85, male cats $40, and female cats $50. This includes spay/neuter and rabies shot at the Summerville Veterinary Clinic. Those people adopting animals who want to use a different veterinarian must pay a $25 adoption fee and provide proof of spay/neuter within 30 days.
Chattooga County Animal Control Shelter is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. After hours, emergency callers should dial 911.
Trion High School will host McArt Night at the Summerville McDonalds, Monday, October 28 from 5-7 pm. Part of the proceeds will benefit the THS Art Department.
Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black is alerting Georgians to the recall of some Reser’s Fine Foods products, sold nationwide, because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Georgia Department of Agriculture inspectors will be checking retail stores and food warehouses to make sure the recalled product is removed from sale.
Reser’s Fine Foods of Beaverton, Oregon is recalling approximately 109,000 cases of refrigerated ready-to-eat products because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometime fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman.
The recalled refrigerated ready-to-eat products were distributed nationwide and Canada.
The product is sold in retail and food service establishments. The packages will be marked with a Use-by-Date or Best By Date and followed by a plant identifier code of 20. A complete list of products affected by this recall can be found online here.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recalled products were manufactured at the Topeka, KS salad manufacturing facility. No other Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc. manufacturing facilities are involved in this recall.

A Rock Spring couple was arrested on shoplifting charges this week stemming from an incident at Wal-Mart in Pennville on October 21. According to the report released Friday a Wal-Mart associate witnessed the couple drive off with a pressure washer without paying for it. The store associate was able to get a tag number off of the burgundy, GMC truck the couple was driving.
Then on Wednesday of this week a Chattooga County deputy saw the truck traveling in the Pennville area and initiated a traffic stop. Thirty-four year old Christopher Paul Ingram of Rock Spring admitted to stealing the pressure washer and his passenger, thirty-seven year old Jamie Renae Swanson admitted to driving the truck the night of the shoplifting incident. She also told the deputy that Ingram had sold the pressure washer to a friend.
The two were arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail.
A 69 year-old Cedar Bluff man, Robert Marlin Shad, has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a child under the age of 12. According to reports he has been indicted by a grand jury for rape in the first degree and sexual abuse in the 2nd degree. He was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center earlier this week with a $150,000 bond.
The Chattooga County Sheriff's Department is investigating a burglary that was reported on Wednesday of this week on Gore-Subligna Road. According to a report released on Friday, the homeowner came home to find the door kicked in at the residence. When deputies arrived the woman could not identify that anything was missing. However, when the woman's mother arrived on the scene she noticed that a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. NASCAR Knife that was framed and hanging on the wall was missing from the residence. The burglary is under investigation.
