Calhoun Man Charged With Theft Of Vehicle

Last week, WZQZ News reported about a man who fled from the scene of an accident and barricaded himself in a bathroom at a convenience store because, in his words, “he didn’t want to deal with police”.  It turns out, he had good reason for wanting to avoid police – he was driving a stolen vehicle at the time of the crash.

Pedestrian Finds Gun Near Sidewalk

Summerville Police responded to a call on Saturday about a gun being found by a pedestrian.  Police say that the gun was found near the sidewalk at the intersection of Tyler Street and Rome Boulevard.  The pistol was a Taurus Millennium G2 PT-111, 9MM and was found with the safety off and an empty chamber, with five bullets inside the gun’s magazine.  The gun was taken by police and placed into an evidence locker at the Summerville Police Department.

Georgia Gas Prices Decrease Again

Georgia gas prices decreased at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.22 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 3 cents less than a week ago, 2 cents more than a month ago, and 15 cents less than this time last year. It now costs $48.30 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying at least $2.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.

Town Of Trion Council Meeting

The Town of Trion will have a regular Workshop / Council Meeting in the Town Hall Conference Room, Thursday, February 23, 2023. The Workshop will begin at 6:00p.m. and the Regular Meeting will follow shortly after. Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says, “If you have any questions or comments, please contact me or the Town Hall Office and we will try to get the information you request”.

Update On Flu Season In Northwest Georgia

Dr. Gary Voccio with the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health says that while we are still in flu season, the cases of flu are relatively low in the ten-county region that includes Chattooga County.

First UMC Ash Wednesday Services

First United Methodist Church in Summerville invites the public for an Ash Wednesday service that will be held at the church fellowship hall this Wednesday evening.  Also, the church will have an Ash Wednesday Service from 7 AM – 9 AM at DIRT on Commerce Street in Summerville.  Anyone is welcome to attend either service.
