Spring sports registration is going on through February 18th for local Recreation Departments. County residents pay a $25 registration fee at either the Summerville or Trion Recreation Departments. The age control date for spring sports is September 1, 2023. A copy of the child’s birth certificate needs to be on file. The family of a Menlo woman who died from a suspected fentanyl overdose last week in Walker County has set up a Go Fund Me account to help the woman’s two daughters, one who has special needs.
Summerville Police arrested a Martin Street man last week after he got into a verbal and physical altercation with his girlfriend. Police were called to the scene of the incident and said that when they arrived Steven Lee McGaugh was screaming at the woman. According to the police report, McGaugh “kept on being irate during the investigation”. Police also said that McGaugh could be heard screaming outside the residence by neighbors. McGaugh was arrested on disorderly conduct charges and booked into the Chattooga County Jail shortly after 9 PM last Wednesday.
A fifty-six-year-old Aragon man is dead following a shooting on Reservoir Street in Rome Saturday.
U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor-Greene is blaming the lack of border security with Mexico for the fentanyl deaths that happened in Walker County last week. Those three deaths included a woman from Chattooga County.
