Warrants Taken Out After Man Trashes Apartment

The Summerville Police Department took out warrants against a thirty-year-old man after he trashed and apartment and assaulted a female victim.  Police responded to a call at Summerville Gardens about a domestic incident in progress. Police found the victim on the porch, crying when they arrived.  The victim said that the suspect came in her apartment unannounced and began trashing the place and at one point, struck her in the face.  Police noted the damage to the apartment and said that their were visible signs that the woman had been assaulted.  Based on the evidence, police took out warrants against Cody Ray Bean in connection with the incident. Police also said that Bean had already been trespassed against coming to Summerville Gardens in the past.

Teen Arrested After Threatening To “Slit” His Father’s Throat

An eighteen-year-old Summerville man was arrested last week after he threatened to cut his bedridden father’s throat.  A deputy and Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader responded to the domestic call on Homestead Drive and spoke with witnesses who said that Levi Adams became irate with his brother over a set of headphones.  At one point, witnesses said that Adams grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened his father, telling him that if he called 911, he would “slit his throat”.  Adams admitted to the deputy and sheriff that he had made the threat.  Adams was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of terroristic threats and acts.

GSP: Highly Visible Patrols For Labor Day Weekend

As summer comes to an end and thousands of Georgians hit the road to celebrate the Labor Day holiday, the Georgia Department of Public Safety reminds motorists that Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) officers will conduct highly visible patrols on interstates and secondary roads, looking for unsafe behaviors that put travelers at risk.

Summerville Chili & Brunswick Stew Cookoff

With the return of of the steam engines to the Summerville Depot, the City of Summerville is hosting a chili and Brunswick stew cookoff on September 16, 2023.  The event will be held from 10 AM until 3 PM and trophies will be awarded.  First place prize is $500 and second place is $200 and the third place winner will take home $100.  There will be $5 tasting wristbands available to sample all the stew and chili.  There will also be live vendors, live music and of course – the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum steam train.

Drunk Man Kicks In Brother’s Door

A forty-one-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he kicked in the door of his brother’s residence.  Deputies were summoned to Ridge Street in Trion where they found Jimmy Ray Walker intoxicated and being belligerent.  Walker’s family members said that he had came over to his brother’s house to “hang out” but got so drunk, his brother refused to let him drive home.  Walker’s wife had come to pick him up, but he was wanting to fight instead of going home.  Deputies had to wrestle Walker to the ground to handcuff him.  He was arrested on charges of obstruction of officers, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Paradise Garden Foundation is pleased to announce a new exhibit, Before and After Paradise: The Art of Peter Loose, on view in the Museum and Visitor Center through October 30th, 2023. The Foundation is excited to present Peter Loose’s artwork due to the artist’s close relationship with Rev. Howard Finster, a friendship that began in Loose’s early 20s during visits to Paradise Garden from Athens, GA.

Man Arrested For Public Indecency At Murphy Gas Station

A forty-nine-year-old man was arrested at the Murphy Gas station in Trion last week after he was found urinating at the gas pump.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the clerk at the gas station called 911 after the man was seen on security camera exposing himself.  The suspect had left before deputies arrived, but they found the suspect and performed a traffic stop.  Justin Todd Moore told the deputies that the store clerk had told him the bathrooms were out of order and he couldn’t wait.  Deputies said that there were two open cans of beer in the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.  Moore was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail.
