Summerville Police Find Utility Services Being Stolen

On Friday of last week, Summerville Police were called by the Summerville Housing Authority about a case of utility theft.  When police arrived, they found a drop-cord going from a housing unit to an apartment nearby.  Police removed the drop-cord and found that the apartment appeared to be stealing water as well.  When the Summerville Water Department arrived, they confirmed that water and sewer services were being stolen as well.  The apartment had not paid for those services since November of 2020.  The water department said over $1600 worth of water had been stolen in that amount of time.  The incident report from the Summerville Police Department did not indicate any suspects in the case.

Georgia Gas Prices Continue To Decline

Georgia gas prices continues to decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.57 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight).

Monday’s state average was 4 cents less than a week ago, 5 cents more than a month ago, and 18 cents more than this time last year. It now costs almost $53.55 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasolineDrivers are paying almost $3.00 more to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago. Georgia’s gas price average remains lower than the national average, which is currently trending at $3.81 a gallon.

“Pump prices appear to be dropping across the country,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Largely due to declining crude oil prices, however, concerns regarding potential storm activity could redirect falling pump prices heading into Labor Day weekend. Georgians can anticipate pump prices to ebb and flow in September.”

Gas Prices Nudge Down, But Further Relief Could Face Turbulence

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has decreased by 5 cents to $3.81 (subject to change overnight). The price of oil has declined several dollars per barrel and is holding steady below $80, contributing to lower pump prices. As Labor Day approaches, gas demand and volatile oil prices, particularly during an active hurricane season, could limit how much lower prices descend in the weeks ahead. According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand jumped from 8.85 to 8.91 million barrels a day. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks increased slightly from 216.2 to 217.6 million barrels. Although demand increased, growing stock levels contributed to pushing prices lower.

Regional Prices:

The most expensive Georgia metro markets – are Savannah ($3.67), Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.62), and Atlanta ($3.61).

The least expensive Georgia metro markets – are Rome ($3.46), Valdosta ($3.45), and Albany ($3.43).

Area gas price averages – Chattooga ($3.45), Floyd ($3.46), Walker ($3.46), Gordon ($3.51), DeKalb, AL ($3.33), Cherokee, AL ($3.33).

Additional Charges Brought Against Armuchee Woman

A fifty-four-year-old Armuchee woman who was arrested last week on charges of intimidation and exploitation of the elderly is now accused of burglarizing the home of a seventy-year-old woman on August 22.  She was originally arrested last week after  allegedly stealing a garage door opener from a 91-year-old man, causing the victim to worry that she was going to return to rob the home or harm him. According to Floyd County Jail records, the latest charges against Candice Marie Camp allege that she was seen on security camera images taking a large bag containing various items from the residence of the other victim. That victim has reported several pieces of jewelry missing, as well as tools, and sound equipment, valued at a combined $3,700. Papers with personal and financial information were also missing. Camp is charged with 1st-degree burglary, theft by taking, and exploitation of the elderly.
