Georgia Senate Passes Bill To Eliminate Probate Judge’s Election Duties

On Friday, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 212, sponsored by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics Sen. Max Burns (R–Sylvania). This legislation would relieve the probate court judges from being responsible for elections.

Commissioner Announces Roads To Be Paved In 2024

Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry has released a list of the roads that the county plans on repaving in 2024.  The roads planned for paving this year are in the Gore area, the Teloga area and the Lyerly area. Roads included on the list are: Silver Hill Road, Old Teloga Crossroads, Harrisburg Road, Railey Road, Lyerly Dam Road, Bethel Church Road and Sling Alley Road. Commissioner Elsberry said that since he has become commissioner, the county has spent around $3.85 million on road paving.

Apex PVC Looks To Start Production In Menlo

Apex PVC, LLC is located in Adairsville, Georgia and the owner, David Rogers, has told the City of Menlo that he will be purchasing the old glove mill to produce polymer products that are used in a variety of manufacturing applications including toys, furniture and tools.

Bond Denied For Accused Child Abuser

A judge denied a motion for bond for a man accused of severely beating his four-month-old child and attempting to keep his wife from reporting the crime. Cesar Alejandro Lopez Sr. was arrested earlier this month and is charged with felony aggravated battery and cruelty to children in the first degree as well as false imprisonment.  Reportedly, the mother found the baby after she came home for work and found that child had been severely injured.  The child was first taken to an emergency room in Rome and then to Scottish Right in Atlanta.  Lopez’s defense attorney said there is discrepancies in the story surrounding how the child was injured, but a Floyd County Superior Court Judge denied bond for Lopez this past week. ]

Georgia Ranks Low In Overall Number “Worst States For Drunk Driving”

Forbes Magazine recently published a study that ranked all fifty states from worst to best for drunk driving.  Georgia ranked low in the overall national count at number 40.  The worst state was Montana followed by South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming and North Dakota.

Inmate Being Held For Chattooga Involved In Altercation At Floyd County Jail

Two women were arrested following a fight at the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday of this week.  One of the women is being held in Floyd County for the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
