A new friendly rivalry is underway in Chattooga County, as Chattooga and Trion face off in the Battle of the Beds to raise money for the Chattooga County Animal Shelter. The goal of the month-and-a-half-long campaign is to replace worn-out beds currently used by shelter pets with new elevated beds that offer better comfort, cleanliness, and support.
Organizers say many of the beds now being used at the shelter are old, damaged, or no longer usable. Elevated beds are important because they keep dogs off concrete floors, helping improve sanitation and making it easier for staff to clean kennel areas. They also provide better comfort by reducing joint pressure, helping pets stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and giving them a more secure place to rest while they wait for adoption.
To make the fundraiser more fun, the supplier offers red and blue beds, turning the effort into a community challenge. Red will represent Chattooga, while blue will represent Trion, and the community that raises enough money to buy the most beds will help determine which color fills the shelter. Organizers say every bed purchased will make a meaningful difference for dogs spending much of their time in confined kennel spaces.
