Chattooga County residents will have plenty of choices for getting out of the house Saturday, with three community events offering everything from fishing and wildlife programs to antique tractors and a hometown celebration.

Outdoor Adventure Day returns to James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park from 10 AM until 4 PM. One of the highlights will be the Kids Fishing Rodeo for children 15 and younger, with 50 tagged fish offering opportunities to win prizes. Participants should bring their own fishing poles and bait.

Saturday is also National Hunting and Fishing Day and a Free Fishing Day in Georgia, meaning Georgia residents can fish public waters without a fishing or trout license. Other activities at Sloppy Floyd include archery instruction, a snake program from Southeastern Reptile Rescue, a turtle program from Greg’s Turtle Haven and a birds-of-prey presentation from Wings to SOAR. Food will be available for purchase, and a $10 parking pass per vehicle is required.

Meanwhile, Lyerly’s Down Home Day will bring residents together from 10 AM until 2 PM Saturday. The community celebration will feature local vendors, makers and small businesses, with organizers encouraging residents to “Live local. Shop local. Support local.”

There will also be plenty to see in downtown Summerville, where Summerville Main Street’s Antique Tractor & Small Engines Show takes place from 10 AM until 3 PM along East Washington Street and at the Summerville Depot.

More than 39 antique tractor and small-engine exhibits are expected, including displays from the Chickamauga Antique Tractor Club and Peach State Antique Tractor & Engine Club. Much of the equipment dates to the early and mid-1900s, and live demonstrations are planned throughout the day. A 1910 Woodpecker Hit & Miss Engine will be among the featured exhibits.

Railroad enthusiasts will have something to see as well. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s historic 4501 steam locomotive is expected to arrive at approximately 12:45 PM, followed by an opportunity to watch the locomotive being turned on the Joe Robert Norton Summerville Turntable. Food and specialty vendors will also be on hand, and admission to the tractor and engine show is free.

With events underway in Summerville, Lyerly and at Sloppy Floyd State Park, Saturday will offer a full day of family activities across Chattooga County.
