A celebration of rural American history and the evolution of farming technology is coming to downtown Summerville later this month.

The Antique Tractor & Small Engine Show will be held Saturday, September 26, from 10 AM until 3 PM at the Summerville Train Depot, located at 111 East Washington Street.

The City of Summerville says the educational community event will bring together collectors displaying restored agricultural machinery, stationary engines and vintage farm equipment, with some of the equipment dating from the early to mid-1900s.

Visitors will have an opportunity to see how farming equipment and technology changed over the decades, including live demonstrations of farming tasks using historic machinery.

The event will also feature food and specialty vendors, making it an opportunity for families to spend the day at the depot while learning more about the equipment that helped shape agriculture in rural communities like Chattooga County.

Adding to the day’s activities will be the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s passenger train, TVRM 4501. The historic steam locomotive is scheduled to arrive in Summerville and will be turned on the Summerville Turntable, providing another look at early transportation and mechanical technology.

The combination of vintage tractors, small engines and the steam locomotive will highlight two forms of machinery that played important roles in the development of rural communities throughout the region.
