Mrs. Betty Kellett Bush, age 91 of Summerville, passed away on Monday, March 26. She was born in 1927 in Chattooga County and was a longtime member of South Summerville Baptist Church. She also served on the Summerville City Council. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 30th at noon at the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10:3o AM until 11:45 AM at Earl Rainwater Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Gideons International at PO Box 648, Summerville. Rev. Fred Greene, age 79, of LaFayette passed away Monday, March 19, 2018. He began his work in Ministry in 1969 and was one of the founders of Old Way Baptist Church where he began pastoring in 1974. Throughout his ministry he pastored many churches in the area. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with James Brown and Phillip Wells officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Qualifying has ended for local elections in Chattooga County. There were a total of 4 Republicans who qualified for 3 School Board seats on the Chattooga County Board of Education. Sammy Ballard will be facing off against Andrew Stivers for the Republican nomination for seat 3. The winner of that primary will face off against Democrat Eddie Massey.
Brad Hayes qualified as a Republican for seat 2 and will be running against Alma Lewis in the general election. Julia Houston qualified as a Republican for seat 4 and will be facing incumbent Larry Weesner in the general election in November.
In the nonpartisan state court judge race Jon Dennis the incumbent was the only person to qualify.
Mrs. Betty Sue Anderson, age 87 of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Trion, Georgia on January 8, 1931, daughter of the late Earl Wesley Stowe and Della Mae McWhorter Stowe. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles, was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Anderson; infant daughter, Donna Sue Anderson; a sister, Dorothy Clarke, and brothers, James Stowe and John David Stowe.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Mike Anderson and Steve and Regina Anderson; two grandchildren, Ross Anderson and Payton Anderson; Special friends, Mary Young, Kathy Wells, Louise Caheely and Shirley Peace; longtime Pen Pal, Ina Raub and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Anderson will be held Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Coker and Rev. Robert Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Clarke, Ross Anderson, Payton Anderson, Horace Payton, Ralph Southerland, and John Wayne Stowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mary Young, Shirley Peace and members of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Anderson will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
