Summerville Main Street will host its first Trains & Tracks Expo at the Historic Summerville Depot this Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25. Hours of operation for the event on Saturday, October 24 will be 10:00 am-3:00 pm and Sunday, October 25 from 12:00 noon-3:00pm. The expo is a great way to spend the day whether you’re an avid modeler or just looking for a fun and interesting day out with the family. The Trains & Tracks Expo is designed for children of all ages; for modelers, collectors, and enthusiasts; for families in search of good old-fashioned fun; and for the simply curious. The Train Expo features tables of trains, accessories, scale models and collectible toys. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Steam Engine is scheduled to arrive each day of the event at 12:45 pm with passengers and will be turned on the Summerville Turntable, for the public’s viewing pleasure. There will be railroad memorabilia for sale, food and craft vendors at the depot, and much more.

A highlight for the event will be the Chattanooga Modular Modeler Train exhibit. The Chattanooga Modular Modelers, Inc. is a non-profit Tennessee corporation that uses the hobby of model railroading to educate the public about the role the railroads have played in our nation’s history. They teach techniques for construction of portable displays. They also teach electric and electronics principles used in modern devices, and how to display artistic expression through the mastery of the many skills necessary to complete a model railroad or diorama. Their motto is “Teaching and Inspiring through the art of Model Railroading”.

Model train and railroad exhibitors from the North Georgia Module Rail Group, Tunnel Hill, and Cumming will be on site with exhibits. Also included will be a working N-Scale Southern model train displayed local by Tracy Espy, model train and railroad memorabilia by Richard Neumerster, and a working model display by railroad staff member, Tom Foden, of LaFayette.

History buffs attending will have the chance to wrap up the day on Saturday at 3:00 pm with the Living History Cemetery Tour, sponsored by the Chattooga County Historical Society and Summerville Main Street. Those participating in tour will board the transit bus and depart from the depot for the tour beginning at 2:45pm. A suggested donation of $5.00 per adult and $2.00 per children ages 6 and up will be used to support preservation and tombstone repair of this historical site.

A man was arrested for allegedly shoplifting a pocketknife and some glue from the Walmart in LaFayette.

According to police reports, 25 year old George Arthur Link, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after he was seen concealing a pocketknife – and a bottle of super glue – into his pocket before trying to leave the store.

Link was stopped by a Walmart loss prevention officer, who asked him why he was stealing the items; according to the information in the report, Link replied (quote) "I was just stupid I guess." (end-quote).

Link was arrested and transported to the Walker County jail without incident.

The estimated value of the shoplifted items came to around $16.00.

26 year old Rome resident Clinton Briggs Miller has been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the sexual exploitation of children.

Court records indicate that Miller had pictures and videos on his phone depicting underage females engaging in sexual acts; he was also accused of threatening two of the victims, ages 14 and 16, if they stopped sending him nude pictures.

After being arrested on state charges, federal authorities charged Miller earlier this month.

Following his arrest, Miller was released after meeting his $10,000 bond.

The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary recently taking place in the Nugget Ridge area of Subligna.

The person reporting the incident informed law enforcement that she had been out of town for a couple of days, and upon returning had discovered that the bedroom rooms which had been left closed, were open.

She also noted that the home had been ransacked, with several items being taken, including her son's Beats laptop, PS3 and XBOX 360 with an estimated combined value of a $1,350.00 – change in the amount of around $15.00, had also been taken.

The incident remains under investigation.

A Chattooga County Sheriff's Office Deputy responded to a domestic dispute, at a Ranchland Drive address, where he was met by a man outside the home – who told him that he wanted his billfold and his phone, but refused to elaborate.

The woman inside the residence and the man finally agreed to separate for the night.

The man was told by officers that he couldn't drive intoxicated.  He was then given a lift to a home down the street, and the officer returned to the scene of the dispute.

Shortly thereafter, the man came staggering back down the road, and sure enough he began yelling at the woman.

At that point, the deputy had had enough and told the man – identified as  Steve Henderson – that he was under arrest; Henderson resisted with little effect – and was transported to jail, where he was charged with Disorderly Conduct.

A resident of East Armuchee Road reported the theft of his Makita Miter Saw to the Sheriff's Office last Sunday (October 19th).

The victim told deputies that he had left the saw on his front porch, and later noticed that it was missing.

The information was turned over to investigators for follow-up.
