A woman already in the Floyd County Jail has been additionally charged for attempting to
cash a forged check back on August 13th.
According to an arrest warrant at the Floyd County Jail, 26 year old Krista Lynn Thorpe had a check that had been taken out of a woman’s mailbox without her permission.
The warrant states Thorpe altered the check, making it payable to “Elizabeth Brooks” in the amount of $1,500. She then took it, and an identification card matching the name that she used on the check, to a bank on Tuner McCall Boulevard in Rome.
When Thorpe tried to cash the check, an employee at the bank noticed it looked odd and
refused to cash it. Thorpe then left the bank, leaving behind both the check and the ID.
Thorpe is charged with fourth degree forgery and two counts of theft by receiving stolen property.
She has been in jail since September 27th, when she was arrested and charged with failure to appear and two probation violations.
A man is in custody, following an incident in East Rome Sunday morning, where shots were fired as police were attempting to make a traffic stop.
According to Major Debbie Burnett with the Rome PD, the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop.
Once at Hull Avenue at East 18th Street, the suspect bailed out of the vehicle and ran.
Burnett stated it was at that point that a shot was fired and the officer returned fire; neither the officer nor the suspect was hit.
The man was taken into custody following a short foot chase. Following a K-9 search of the area, the weapon used by the suspect was recovered.
According to Floyd County Jail records – Dunigan Prince Rogers, age 38 – was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, felony obstruction, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, driving on a suspended or revoked license and failure to obey traffic control devices.

A Walker County woman, driving with a small child in the back seat, was pulled over by law enforcement officials at the corner of First and Culberson, in Lafayette, and was arrested on drug charges.
According to reports police arrested 28 year old Amanda Lynn Wellborn after discovering a quantity of drugs not kept in their original container and marijuana, in addition to schedule II and schedule IV narcotics.
Wellborn was also driving on a suspended license.
The child was turned over to Wellborn's grandfather at the scene.

What started out as a basic disturbance call, ended up with one man being arrested on drug charges.
According to reports, an officer with the Lafayette Police Department was dispatched to the location off West Main, where he met the complainant who told him he'd been woken up by the sound of someone beating at his door.
The man said he looked out the window and saw three people, two males and one female in a dark color Nissan Pathfinder, as they drove away.
The report indicated that the complainant, seemed reluctant to answer any questions about the identity of the individuals
The officer soon spotted the vehicle and pulled the driver over; at that point he detected an odor of marijuana and he also noticed the butt of a rifle sticking out between the driver and passenger seats.
The driver, identified as Denver King, claimed possession of the weapon, an AK-47, and told the officer the gun was not loaded; the officer then removed that rifle from the vehicle and checked to make sure it wasn't loaded; he then called for backup.
24 year old Nickolas Jackson was asked to exit the vehicle and a search of his person turned up a pill bottle containing clear, plastic baggies in addition to two knives.
A search of the vehicle soon led to the discovery of a loaded AK-47 clip, and one stray bullet found in the floorboard. A set of digital scales was also found. Inside the scales, the officers found meth which was claimed by Jackson; additionally pills were found both in the vehicle and in Jackson's pockets.
The rifle was returned to King while Jackson was arrested on charges of Possession of Meth Possession with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Schedule IV Drug.
The man who made the initial call to police identified Jackson and said Jackson and another man had been at his home previously, demanding money.

At least one person was hurt in an accident near the intersection of Highway 48 and Mahan Road at around 10:30 Monday morning.
Details remain sketchy, but reports indicate that one person was air-lifted from the scene by LifeForce Helicopter.

That wreck remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
