Mrs. Roxie Jane Fowler Obit (M)

Mrs. Roxie Jane Fowler, age 89, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015, at her residence.
 
Mrs. Fowler was born April 4, 1925, in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Sam and Azoria Mason Hunter.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Summerville Church of God.  She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Fowler.
 
Survivors include her sons, William Fowler, Alex Fowler, and Donnie Fowler; sister, Mildred Edgeworth;, 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchilden.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Danny Harkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers are Scott Fowler, Tim Wesson, Christopher Fowler, Danny Parrish, J T Wesson and Aaron Cristol. Honorary pallbearers are special care givers, Eunice Simmons and Gayle Phillips, Heyman Hospice Care Employees, and Lamar Fowler.
 
Mrs. Fowler will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive
friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Mr. Erskine Jerome Dew, SR. – Age 74, formerly of Calhoun, Georgia passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Norton. He was a Vietnam Veteran, retired from the US Army after 21 years, retired from Jefferson County School Board (JCPS) in 2002, and was preceded in death by his parents, McAuthor and Evelyn Dew, brother, Douglas Dew, two sons, Michael Hardy and Anthony Dew, and granddaughter LaTasha Mills.
 
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, January 19, 2015 at Community Missionary Baptist Church, 4909 East Indian Trail, with burial at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20,2015 at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery in Radcliffe, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00 until 1:00 Monday at Community Missionary Baptist Church before the funeral service. Mrs. Brenda Annette Cooper Obit (M)

Mrs. Brenda Annette Cooper, age 50, of Gaylesville, AL died Saturday,
January 10, 2015, at Cherokee Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Cooper was born July 23, 1964 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of
Willie Mae Tallent Cooper and the late Mack Cooper.  She had previously
worked at Hardin Manufacturing. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Berea
Church of Christ.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death
by grandparents, Ola Mae Tallent Sprayberry, William “Bill” Tallent, Frances
and Jack Cooper.
 
Survivors include her mother, Willie Mae Cooper; daughters and sons-in-law,
Amanda Avery and Gilbert Moreno, and Ashley Avery and Jonathon O’Neal;
sister, Maxine Cooper; grandchild, Caytlyn O’Neal; nieces and nephews,
Katy Cooper, Jessie James Cooper; special aunt Vaudean Donovits; and pet’s, Lucy and Ricky.
 
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p. m. (EST) Thursday January 15, 2014
at Berea Church of Christ with Minister Berlin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until the service hour on Thursday at the church.

Town of Trion Conducting Surveys

The Town of Trion will be conducting surveys that are required as a part of an application for a Community Development Block Grant. Employees of the Town of Trion along with volunteers from the community will be conducting door to door surveys on Friday afternoon, January 16, 2015. The Town of Trion appreciates your cooperation in completing these surveys. The purpose of the grant is to improve the water system in the Town of Trion. Mr. Bobby Joe Davis, SR Obit (M)

Mr. Bobby Joe Davis, SR, age 85, of Summerville, GA died Monday, December 29, 2014
at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Davis was born May 4, 1929 in Alcoa, TN, the son of the late Ira Nathan Davis
and Irene McClanahan Davis.  He was retired from Harriett & Henderson Mills and
was a member of the Berryton Baptist Church.  Mr. Davis was also a member of
the Lyerly Masonic Lodge #338, Royal Arch Mason Chapter 19, Trion, and the
Shriners Lodge in Rome.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a
daughter, Mary Wofford.
 
Survivors include his wife, Georgia “Carol” Davis; son, Bobby Joe Davis, JR; daughter,
Freda Davis; sister, Jeanie Willis; grandchildren, Jill Davis Raborg, and Justin Wofford;
Great-grandchild, Atticus Wofford.
 
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, December
31, 2014 at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. Mickey Skates officiating with interment  to follow with Masonic Rites. Active pallbearers will be Brent Williamson, Chuck Helton, Tommy Maynor, Darrell Huskey, Mike Smith, and Justin Wofford.  Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Lyerly Masonic Lodge #338, Royal Arch Mason Lodge, Trion, the Men’s Sunday School Class of Berryton Baptist Church, Charles Millican, Harold Helton, Charles “Wayne” Helton, and all personal friends.
 
Mr. Davis will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends
from 4:00 until 6:00 p. m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014.

Mailbox Damage on Beavers Road

Local News Items 0

On Saturday, November 15th, a report of damage to property brought a Chattooga County officer to Beavers Road.

The homeowner spoke with the officer and said that when she returned home, she found that someone had hit her mailbox, knocking it off the post and breaking the post itself.

The officer saw that the post did lean and was damaged as if it had been hit. The homeowner valued the mailbox and post at $60.

Burglary on Virginia Drive

A burglary was reported to Chattooga County authorities on Sunday, November 16th.

The complainant told officers that his home on Virginia Drive was broken into between the 4th and the 12th of November. The man was out of town trucking during this time.

The man noted that someone entered his home through the bathroom window and stole several items. Some items included a boom box and three space heaters.

The Investigations department was notified and the incident is still under review.

Trespassing on Bryant Road

A report released this week says that on Sunday, November 16th, a man that owns a home on Bryant Road called Chattooga County authorities to report trespassing. 

The man told the officer on duty that his son had been staying at the home recently, but no one was living in the home on that particular date. 

The chain on the driveway fence had been cut and the front door of the house had been pushed open. A light bulb was found that may have been used to smoke drugs.

No items appeared to have been stolen. The officer assured the man that extra patrol would be assigned in his area and the incident was referred to Investigations.

Home Burglarized on O’Neal Road

A report released yesterday said that on November 16th, a Chattooga County officer responded to a report of a burglary on O'Neal Road. 

The home was locked and the door had been secured with screws. Upon arrival, the officer could see that the interior of the home had been ransacked and several items were missing. The home had been used as storage and had not been rented out recently.

The items missing included cosmetics, gun supplies, figurines, a stereo system, and other miscellaneous items. 

The incident was referred to Investigations for further research.
