According to a report released this week by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department, on Saturday, November 15th, a Chattooga County deputy was dispatched to Northern Heights Circle in reference to a fight.

 The officer met with the complainant, who told him that Mr. Kevin Winch had come to her house to sit by their bonfire. When Mr. Winch allegedly began to make sexual advances towards the complainant, her sister and her friend, she asked Mr. Winch to leave. He continued to make advances towards her as she walked him to the road, the complainant said WInch  became angry when she denied him again. Mr. Winch is accused of breaking the front windshield of her vehicle in his rage. The damage to the car was valued at nearly $500. The complainant's brother came from the house  to subdue Mr. Winch and calm him down. Mr. Winch then returned home.

The officer went to speak with Mr. Winch, who said that nothing had happened and everything was alright. When the officer asked Mr. Winch to step outside, he saw that he appeared unsteady on his feet and nearly fell down. Mr. Winch then admitted to drinking, but followed with another comment that nothing had happened.

Mr. Winch was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and taken to the Chattooga County Jail.  

On November 11th, a Chattooga County officer was dispatched to a home on Highway 157 after receiving a report of property damage. 

One man told the officer that he had seen a controlled fire at his neighbor's home earlier that day. But about three hours before the officer arrived, the man saw that his own stack of railroad ties had caught fire. The man said he had about 120 ties at about eight dollars each, bringing the total value of the damage at $960.

A report was filed for future reference. 

On November 14th, a Chattooga County officer met with a woman that told him that she was the victim of an identity theft.

The woman said that the Walmart Credit Card Company contacted her to tell her that someone attempted to obtain a credit card in her name.

When she contacted the credit bureau, she was told that someone used her Farm Bureau credit card and her Chase credit card to make purchases in Alabama and in Menlo, Georgia. The woman was unaware of the purchases or the businesses where the cards were used.

The officer told the woman that an account number and billing receipt would be needed to continue with an investigation, so the woman retrieved them to file a report for future reference. 

The Class of 2016 at Chattooga High School posted a school record high score on the Georgia High School Writing Test this fall with 97.2% of Juniors passing the test. Congratulations to the Juniors of Chattooga High School.

 The Georgia High School Writing Test is administered to all students in their Junior year of high school and is required to graduate. The test gives hands-on practice and examination of the students' English, language arts, and writing skills. It is designed to test the aptitude of a student by administering a prompt, and asking the student to perform all stages of the writing process within a time limit.   

A Chattooga County officer was dispatched to North Elizabeth Street after receiving a report of a theft on November 14th.

A woman told the officer that someone stole her grandson's bicycle. The woman said she has last seen the bicycle in her carport around 2:00 pm the day before. When the woman went out to check her mail, she saw that the bike was missing.

The woman did not know the serial number for the bicycle at the time, and she could not think of any suspects. She did describe the bike as a black, 20-inch Murray trail bike. 

One Chattooga County officer met with a complainant on Old Holland Road about a suspicious vehicle on November 11th.

The woman saw a car parked on her family's land, and mentioned that they have had problems with people trespassing on their land while hunting deer. 

The two men that were on her land told her that they were following a map and looking for deer when confronted. The homeowner gave them a verbal warning and they agreed to leave the premises.

A report was filed to document the incident for future use. 

A driver attempting to impersonate a police officer caught the attention of Chattooga County citizens and officers on November 14th. 

A silver Ford Crown Victoria had red, blue, and white dash lights, but did not have county details. Because the car had dark windows, two grill lights, and a blue line tag on the front bumper, it was clear that the driver was attempting to impersonate a police officer.

One witness to the driver of the false police car driving recklessly told an officer about his appearance and the direction he was speeding off to.

Officers were on the lookout for the car, but as of November 14th, they had not found the driver.
