Friday and Saturday (April 22nd & 23rd) is FREE Dump Day at the Transfer Station, located on Stockade Road. This is a terrific opportunity for those doing spring cleaning to get rid of that clutter without having to pay to do so.
There are a few exceptions including disposal of old tires which will require the payment of a small fee.
Again FREE Dump Day at the Transfer Station will be this Friday and Saturday from 7:30am – 3:30pm.

Chattooga County students and parents please take note:
Several valuable scholarships are still available however time is running out. Unfortunately, students and their parents are often unaware of the many scholarships that could provide a student with substantial help when it comes to furthering their education.
Among those currently available:
There are 13 Student Insights Scholarships – one for $4,000; two for $1,000 each and a total of ten at $500 each. The deadline to apply is this Friday, April 22nd.
A Menlo Lion's Club Scholarship in the amount of $500. Again, that deadline to apply is this Friday the 22nd.
A Lyerly Civic Club Scholarship for $500. The deadline is May 3rd.
Also ask about the A.C. Carter Consolidated School Scholarship, with a deadline of May 1st – and the Horatio Alger Association Scholarship with a deadline of June 1st.
And for those students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, there's the Mary Bullard Memorial Scholarship through the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office – in the amount of $500 with a deadline of May 16th.
Even though the deadlines are close, there is still time to qualify.
Anyone with questions, can contact School Counselor Barbara Wallace, at Chattooga County High School by calling (706) 857-2402.
Don't let this opportunity to receive valuable assistance for higher education go to waste.

The Corporal Mary Bullard Memorial Scholarship is designed for those graduates who plan to enter the Law Enforcement career field.
Each scholarship awarded is for $500, which may be used for those graduating seniors who will enter a State or Federal Police Academy or will instead choose to enter into a college or technical school to study the field of law enforcement.
Corporal Mary Bullard was a career law enforcement officer in Chattooga and Floyd County who was a deeply devoted and decorated police officer throughout her career. Mary, better known to those of us in the Law Enforcement profession as "KK", served under several area sheriffs including Sheriff Gary McConnell, Sheriff Ralph Kellett, Sheriff John Everett, and she completed her tour of duty under Mark Schrader in 2014.
KK understood the important role of education and devoted part of her career to becoming a law enforcement instructor with the state of Georgia, Georgia Peace Officers, Standards & Training Council (which is responsible for training of all law enforcement officers/divisions employed in the state of Georgia). KK spent many hours training fellow officers – and most beloved to her, the children of Chattooga County in the D.A.R.E. program.
The culmination of KK’s career came on February 20th, 2014 when she passed away due to an unexpected illness. KK’s family chose to begin a scholarship in her honor which would assist our county’s young people in beginning their studies in her chosen profession, which to her was her calling: law enforcement.
Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were recently dispatched to a location on Mahan Road in Summerville, in reference to a possible attempt to steal a vehicle. Officers met with the complainant who stated that he was awakened between 5:30 and 6:00 that morning by what sounded like a car slowing down in front of his home, and when he looked outside his truck wasn’t in the driveway.
He then saw his Ford Ranger sitting in the roadway and at that point, dialed 9-1-1.
The owner said that someone had tampered with the starter on the vehicle a couple of days earlier, and afterwards he had disconnected the coil wire, disabling the truck.
The complainant said that he didn’t know who had tampered with the vehicle advising only that he’d seen a young man – that he didn’t know – in the area in the days leading up to the incident.
That matter remains under investigation.
Don’t forget the “Moonlight Paddle” event takes place this Friday (April 22nd). AM1180 News recently spoke with Alisha Cavin, who informed us that those taking part, will enjoy a hot dog dinner prior to paddling out to enjoy the sunset – and then return by moonlight.
Everyone should meet at the Sloppy Floyd Pavilion #4 at 6:00pm, just across from the park office.
It’s important to stress that the park has a limited number of kayaks and canoes which are being offered at a discount rate of only $10 for this special event. Safety equipment will be provided to make sure this fun family-type gathering is absolutely appropriate for all ages. You are also welcome to bring your own kayaks and canoes.
That event is sponsored by the Friends of Sloppy Floyd organization.
To find out more, call (706) 238-0115.
The Subligna Community Center will be hosting their annual fundraiser on Saturday (April 23rd) from 11:30am – 2:00pm at the center. BBQ will be served.
For additional information on that event call (706) 397-2394.
