Ralph Timm Southerland, Obit (C)

Mr. Ralph Timm Southerland, age 76 of Trion, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at his residence.

Ralph was born in Resaca, Georgia on November 7, 1947, son of the late R.L. and Ruby Lee Cagle Southerland. Ralph was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. He served with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for over 35 years as a jailer, Captain, Jail Administrator and Court Services Deputy. Ralph also owned and operated Southerland Garage as a full-time mechanic. He was a devoted and faithful member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Trion for 47 years, after being saved on May 1, 1977. Among the offices he held over the years, he was a Sunday School teacher and had been treasurer. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years and mother of his children, Clara Southerland and his second wife, of 12 years, Frances Powell Southerland; a brother, Ronald Southerland; a sister, Linda Chamlee; son, Timothy DeWayne Southerland; granddaughter, Jennifer Whitt.

Ralph is the father of Mark (Kim) Southerland, Brian(Kathy) Southerland, Karen Swafford, and Linda(Joseph) Reynolds. He is also the brother of Kathy Wells. Ralph has 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and an abundance of great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special friends, Bill and Nancy DeHart and Jim and Patti Grindstaff; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Ralph will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will include Burt Reynolds, Brandon Southerland, Austin Southerland, Luke Busby, Matthew Busby, Jackson Montgomery, Andy Williams and Taylor Long. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph’s Grandchildren, Bill DeHart, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and the Members of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Ralph will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

Burland “Junior” Mullins, Obit (M)

Mr. Burland “Junior” Mullins age 61 of LaFayette, GA passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Mullins was born January 29, 1961 in Fort Payne, AL to the late Burland Mullins, Sr., & Linda Wooten Mullins. He was a farmer and a member of Gordon Lake Wesylan Church.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clicky & Ruth Wooten.

Survivors include his daughter, Shasta (Jonathan) Ledwell; granddaughters, Haley, KK, & Sierra Ledwell; 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Teresa (Kirk) Dickson, Melissa (William) Brown, Marcy , and Pam (Chris) Russell; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Mullins will take place at 2:00 PM EST Monday, April 22 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Asley Mew and Rev. Jack Sherman officiating. Interment will follow at Mill Creek Cemetery with Pat Leming, Paul Leming, Mike Leming, Mike Reece, Lee Hawkins, and Chris Russell serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Naomi Faye Ramsey, Obit (ER)

Naomi Faye Elsberry Ramsey, 81, of Lyerly, passed away on April 18, 2024 at her home.

Faye was born on December 28, 1942 to Annie Bell Kellett and Glen Elsberry.

In 1961, Faye married William “Bill” Ramsey. Faye and Bill went on to have three children, Chrysan, Jeff and Holland. Faye was the bookkeeper for Bill’s construction business, Bill Ramsey, Inc. She was a homemaker and later a paraprofessional at Chattooga High School. She was a member of Lyerly First Baptist Church.
Faye was predeceased in death by her husband William David “Bill” Ramsey, her siblings Sewell Glen Elsberry, Annie Ruth Sweatman, Roy “RC” Elsberry, Edwin “Ed” Dobbs Elsberry, James Elsberry, Robert “Bob” Elsberry and Charles Elsberry.

Survivors include her siblings Sarah Duke and Bill Elsberry; her daughter Chrysan (Lanny) Thomas; her sons Jeff (Kasey) Ramsey and William Holland Ramsey; her six grandchildren Chaz (Karanda) Thomas, Ramsey (Rebecca) Thomas, Austin (Samantha) Ramsey, Christian (Lindsey) Thomas, Isaac (Cassie) Thomas and Kerrigan (Matthew) Moore; and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home on Sunday April 21, 2024 at 1:00 to 3:00 PM. A service will be held at 3:00PM with Rev. James Baird officiating. Active pallbearers will be Chaz Thomas, Ramsey Thomas, Austin Ramsey, Christian Thomas, Isaac Thomas, and Kerrigan Ramsey Moore.

In addition to flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Center For Hope 145 Catoosa Circle Ringgold, Georgia 30736, an organization Faye felt strongly about that focuses on mental health.
