Mrs. Glenda Faye Williams, age 80 of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Williams was born in Trion, Georgia on June 26, 1943, daughter of the late Ralph McKinley Watkins and Jewell Pack Watkins. She was retired from Restaurant Enterprises and was of the Baptist Faith. She was an accomplished golfer, loved flowers and loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her family, Mrs.

Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee “Buddy” Williams, Jr.; and brothers, Edward “Buddy” Watkins and Frankie Watkins.

Mrs. Williams is survived by a daughter, Sheila Ann Day; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Pam Williams and Ronnie and Beth Williams; sisters and brother-in-law, Maggie Tucker, Betty Williams, Joyce and Alvin Grogan and Shirley Ratliff; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Diane Watkins, Paul and Bobbie Watkins, Ray and Linda Watkins, Cecil Watkins and Sherman Watkins; sister-in-law, Linda Griggs; grandchildren, Corey Day, Casey Day, Leann Willingham and Joe Williams; 7 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Williams will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Holman officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Roy Williams, Corey Day, Casey Day and Dakoda Willingham.

Mrs. Williams will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Helen Kay Sharp Conaway, Obit (M)

Mrs. Helen Kay Sharp Conaway, age 82, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Conaway was born March 29, 1941, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late James M. and Ollie Elizabeth Aaron Sharp. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, had been employed with Wire Tech. She loved spending time with her family, being a caregiver and working in the garden. She was also a big time fan and loved watching wrestling events.

Helen was most devoted to her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was the life of the party at family get-togethers. She was dearly loved by all her nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Conaway was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Conaway; sisters, JoAnn Adams, Jeanette Penrod, and Imma Jean Sharp.

Survivors include her sisters, Doris E. Smith, Josie V. Ramey, and Lillie Dale.

No formal services are planned at this time.

Ruby Mae Petitt, Obit (C)

Mrs. Ruby Mae Petitt, age 95 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Ruby was born in Clay County, Alabama on June 3, 1928, daughter of the late James Thomas Dixson and Ivy Nonie Denny Dixson. She and her husband, Durward Leon Petitt owned and operated the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home from 1969, until his death in November of 2012. Mrs. Ruby loved spending time being with and telling her kids, grandkids and great grandchildren stories; working in her yard, taking care of her flowers, cooking and crocheting. She was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ruby was preceded by her husband, Durward Leon Petitt on November 16, 2012 and two daughters, Sandra Sue Petitt and Rhonda Petitt Wells.

Mrs. Ruby is survived by a son, Dana Leon Petitt; daughter, Renia Petitt Miller; son-in-law, Larry Wells; sisters, Lavada Dean, Nadine Bailey Moore, Barbara Dixson and Jeanette Pope; brother, Jimmy Dale Dixson; grandchildren, Yvette and Jason Houck, Jeff Richardson, Anthony Richardson, Julie Petitt, Travis Petitt, Daera Rankin, Natasha and Ricky Dover, Chad and Erica Miller; great grandchildren, Lexie Dover, Bentley Dover, Cooper Miller, Pryce Houck, Gradon Houck, Cassey Wells, Tyler Eliam and Nick Eliam; and a number of nieces, nephews and additional family members.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mrs. Ruby will be held Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Ruby will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M.

14th annual “Sharing His Love Through School Supplies” To Be Held Sunday July 23rd

The 14th annual “Sharing His Love Through School Supplies” will be held on Sunday July 23rd from 2pm to 5pm or until all supplies are gone.  The event will take place at the Summerville 1st Baptist Church Life Center located at 125 Georgia Avenue in Summerville.  There will be an inflatable, popcorn, snow cones and a balloon artist on hand for the children.  The event is open to Chattooga County residents only and the child must be present to receive school supplies.
