DeForest “Brimp” Warren, Obit (M)

Mr. DeForest “Brimp” Warren, age 101, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, November 29, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Warren was born May 8, 1924, in Berryton, GA, son of the late Hines William Warren and Lizzie Kinsey Warren. He was a member of Horizon Baptist Church.

Mr. Warren was a veteran of the United States Army and was the final surviving World War II Veteran of Chattooga County. In 1960, he founded Warren Ford in Summerville and owned and operated the dealership until 1986. He received numerous awards from Ford and was a member of the Ford Hall of Fame. He was also an original co-founder of the Chattooga County Democratic Association.
Mr. Warren was a member of the Chattooga Masonic Lodge # 704, F&AM as well as the Chattooga Shrine Club. He had also been selected to serve as the Grand Marshall for the Chattooga County Veterans Day Parade.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Clara Barrett Warren; granddaughter, Ashley Payton Hall; and son-in-law, Charles Dempsey Carden

Survivors include his son, Gary Matthew Warren; daughter, Cynthia Lee Warren Carden; grandchildren, Andrea (Daniel) Hayes, Ansley (Daniel) Smith, Amanda (Jason) Wright; great-grandchildren, Caden Smith, Emma Kate Smith, Libby Wright, and Cali Cavallo.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Stacy Vaughn and Chaplain David Ellis officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Daniel Hayes, Daniel Smith, Jason Wright, Caden Smith, Kyle Kellett, and Blake Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy Vaughn, Dennis Tucker, Arch Warren, Anita Johnston, Glenda Searels, Donnie Hall, Brandon Gurley, Jimmy Barron, Ken Bruce, Rex Abernathy, Jimmy Evans, Doug Stephens, Joseph Jackson, Ken Anderson, Jon Dennis, Odele Anderson, Barbara Reece, Albert Palmour, Pete Vaughn, and Kathy Floyd.

Mr. Warren will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Wednesday.

Irene Brooks Bishop, Obit (M)

Mrs. Irene Brooks Bishop, age 90, of Lyerly, GA, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, surrounding by her loving family.

Born December 13, 1934, in Lyerly, GA, Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched countless lives with her kindness, hard work, and generous spirit.

For many years, Irene proudly served her community as a school bus driver. She was famous for her delicious home cooking and never hesitated to feed family, friends, neighbors, or anyone who stopped by. An active and faithful member of Lyerly First Baptist Church, she loved her church family dearly. Irene enjoyed traveling whenever she could, whether near or far, and above all, she poured her heart into her family who were the great joy and pride of her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Bishop; her parents, Bill and Eva Brooks; her twin sister, Wilene Bishop; and her brothers, Clyde Brooks and Howard Brooks.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Joy (Doug) Moseley and Jill (Steve) Pledger; her grandchildren, Amanda (Andy) Long, Leslie (L.J.) Boston, Zach (Brittany) Pledger, Natalie (Tyler) Burdick, Chris (Greta) Moseley, and Jennifer Furman; her cherished great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Long, Kenzleigh Long, Bella Burdick, Stevie Griffin, Silas Pledger, Abby Burdick, Rory Pledger, Asher Burdick, Bishop Burdick, Indy Pledger, Beauen Burdick, Claira Moseley, Anna Furman, and Jasper Moseley; her sister, Shirley Willingham; along with several loving nieces and nephews.
Irene was also deeply grateful for her devoted caregiver, Mindi Cole, and her dear friends, Cliff Gardner and Paula McNeese who brought joy and companionship to her days.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 30, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zach Pledger, Chris Moseley, Andy Long, L.J. Boston, Tyler Burdick, and Silas Pledger.

Mrs. Bishop will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Sunday.

Freida Spraggins Humphrey, Obit (ER)

MRS. FREIDA SPRAGGINS HUMPHREY, age 71, of Sloppy Floyd Lake Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday evening, November 24, 2025, in a Rome hospital. A native of Trion, Georgia, She was the daughter of the late Alvin (Slim), and Juanita Keef Spraggins. Along with Her Husband, Mrs. Humphrey was co owner of Sign Designs of Summerville and a home maker.

Surviving are Her husband, William (Butch) Humphrey; sons, Michael (Kim) Humphrey and Christopher (Danielle) Humphrey; grandchildren, Allee Humphrey and Colton Humphrey.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 30th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Quinn officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.
