Heavy Rains Expected To Stay East of Northwest Georgia This Weekend

Up to an inch of rainfall is in the forecast for this weekend in northwest Georgia but there is some good news.  Models have been shifting the heavier rain further to the east which is a welcomed change for Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia.

GEMA Meteorologist Will Lanxton offers this commentary on the rain forecast for the next few days:

“Models have been gradually shifting the bulk of the rainfall over the coming days eastward. Attached is the 5-day rainfall accumulation forecast from the Weather Prediction Center, which shows the highest rainfall totals over southern and eastern portions of Georgia. While this is good news for Northwest Georgia, the potential for heavy rainfall will be possible across all of Georgia tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. It will likely be another feast or famine type series of waves, with some areas receiving much more than expected and many areas receiving less than what is forecast. Overall, we should be looking for any flooding issues in Southeast Georgia over the coming days but will have to watch what fires up on radar before knowing exactly which areas could see problems. WPC has Southeast GA outlined in their excessive rainfall outlook today, all of Georgia tomorrow, and Northeast Georgia on Saturday (see attached). A cold front is still forecast to move through Georgia late Monday through Tuesday, which will give us some nice weather for most of next week.”
