The City of Summerville is providing a water buffalo with drinking water located in the parking lot across from the Summerville Fire Department on Cox St.   A second water buffalo will be on site later this evening. Please bring your own containers.

Mrs. Burmah Nell Green, Obit (R)

MRS. BURMAH NELL GREEN, age 77, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, September 3, 2022, at her residence. Mrs. Green was born on April 22, 1945 to the late Roscoe and Derotha Tommie McClung. She was a member and Elder of the Cloudland Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections. Burmah enjoyed walking, sewing, crafting and was active in the Cloudland Yoga and Mentone Knitting Class. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a brother, the late Carlton McClung.

Surviving are Her loving husband of 57 years, Phil Green; daughter, Angie Pritchett (Jackie); granddaughter, Lindsey Hankins (Brian); great grandchildren, Reese Willingham, Kristen Hankins, Colton Hankins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 6th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Bobby Cavin and David Tidmore officiating, interment in Cloudland Presbyterian Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Chad O. Green, Butch Young, Greg Hawkins, Rex Abernathy, Dickie Tanner, and David Tidmore; Honorary Pallbearers Cindy Deberry, Glenda Hamilton, Nancy McCalmon, Sarah Pless, Nancy Abernathy, Carol Thomason, Sally Muschamp, Patsy and Kimberly Jackson, and Gay Godbois. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 until 4 P.M. at the Funeral Home. The Family request no flowers and suggest contributions to the Cloudland Presbyterian Church or Cloudland Presbyterian Cemetery.

Frances M. Palmour, Obit (R)

MS. FRANCES M. PALMOUR, age 92, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning September 3, 2022, in the local nursing center. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born on February 19, 1930 to the late Samuel Grady Palmour, Sr. and Georgia Alice Weaver Palmour. Ms. Palmour was a Charter Member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship and was retired school teacher for the Chattooga County and Trion City School systems. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a sister, the late Maxine Palmour.

Surviving are brothers, Grady and Ann Palmour and Jimmy and Judy Palmour; niece, Georgianna Palmour; nephews, Jay and Beth Palmour, Christopher Ward, Sam Palmour and Mack Palmour.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7th, at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery at Trion, with Rev. John Paul Harris officiating. Active Pallbearers Jay Palmour, Chris Ward, Sam Palmour, Mack Palmour, John Weaver, Michael White, and Darrell White. Visitation will be Wednesday at 1 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Trion Drinking Water Is Safe To Drink Per Mayor Thomas

WZQZ just spoke with Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas. Mayor Thomas said that he has received several questions about whether the drinking water in the Town of Trion is safe to drink.
Per Mayor Thomas, the Town of Trion’s drinking water is 100% safe to drink.

Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible through
the evening. Flash flooding continues.

H Floyd State Park. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Move to higher ground now! This is an extremely dangerous and

fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.

Chattooga County Receives 10+ Inches Of Rain In 8 Hour Period – Flood Warning In Effect Until 10:30 pm

This graphic displays a flash flood warning plotted on a map. The warning is in effect until 5:00 PM EDT. The warning includes Holland GA. This warning is for Central Chattooga County in northwestern Georgia and Central Floyd County in northwestern Georgia. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters! Move immediately to higher ground! There are 3,056 people in the warning along with 0 schools and 0 hospitals.

Chattooga County saw torrential rains overnight and into early Sunday morning  that brought devasting flash flooding conditions along with it.  Most estimates had the county receving anywhere from 8 to 10 inches of rainfall from midnight to around 8 or 9am Sunday morning as a passing weather system became stalled over Chattooga County.  Some estimates have been as high as 12 inches of rainfall.  Downtown Summerville and Trion were some of the hardest hit areas as many downtown businesses in Summerville, especially on the southern end of town, reported several inches to over three feet of water in some buildings.

WZQZ news received a phone call early Sunday morning from Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas.  Mayor Thomas stated that many Trion residents were being evacuated by boat and there were reports of multiple cars submerged.

As many local creeks and streams were overcome with raging waters, countless roads and bridges became impassable with many reports of sections of roads buckling and washing away creating extremely dangerous driving conditions on Sunday.

Sightseers Causing Problems In Trion – Citations To Be Issued

We just received a call from Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas stating they are having tremendous problems with sightseers on the roads in the Trion area.
Mayor Thomas said that the problem is getting so bad that the Trion Police Department are going to start issuing citations to cars driving the roadways that do not live in the town limits.
PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS SO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY OFFICIALS CAN DO THEIR JOBS.

Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas Urges Residents To Stay Out of Trion Area

WZQZ spoke with Trion mayor Lanny Thomas this morning. Mayor Thomas said they have submerged cars and are working furiously to evacuate residents from the area. Please stay out of the Trion area at all costs. Here is audio of Mayor Thomas:
