The Georgia gas price average continues to climb at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.31 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 5 cents more than a week ago, 6 cents less than a month ago, and 9 cents more than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $49.65 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are now paying almost $1.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.
The Highway 27 Yard sale will be held once again this year in August. This year, the dates are August 1-3, and the City of Summerville is currently selling vendor and yard sale spaces at Dowdy Park in downtown Summerville. Dowdy Park gets visitors from all over during the annual event. The cost is just $5 per spot – per day and vendor hours will be from daylight until 7 PM. Spaces will be assigned. The Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program has named Dr. Sierra Armbrust and Dr. Jacob Collier as chief residents for the new academic year beginning today. Chief residents are selected and voted on by their peers and are approved by faculty and staff. During their one-year term, they will serve in leadership roles, mentoring underclassmen and acting as liaisons between residents and faculty.

The Trion City Board of Education will be holding the second and final hearing on the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year operating budget for Trion City Schools coming up next week on Monday, July 8th. A nineteen-year-old Summerville man has been arrested and charged with child molestation. Logan Jayden Pickern was arrested on Thursday morning of last week after an investigation by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News over the weekend that Pickern was carrying on a sexual relationship with a twelve-year-old female child. Pickern was arrested last week by Investigator Daniel Sanford after an investigation that began last month and concluded that Pickern was having sex with the child. Pickern was booked into the Chattooga County Jail and was subsequently released on a $50,000 bond, according to Sheriff Schrader.
