The Habitat for Humanity – Coosa Valley continues to seek some volunteers to assist with its latest home builds. The Coosa Valley Chapter of Habitat for Humanity serves Chattooga, Floyd and Polk Counties.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that his office has “just about” completed the move to the former GBI Crime Lab near Hays State Prison. The sheriff told WZQZ News on Wednesday afternoon that all but his office and one administrative assistant had completed the transition.
Summerville Police say that a Summerville man, Elvis Lowman, came to the police station on Tuesday of this week to report a theft. The complainant said that someone had stolen “his antenna that had a skeleton head on it” off of his Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. The complainant also said someone had damaged the front bumper of his truck while it was parked on Ramey Street in Summerville. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
Fredricks Outdoor Equipment in Morgan County, Alabama – along with the Morgan County Community Emergency Response (CERT) team and the AmCon Southeast Disaster Response Team – have teamed up to gather supplies for flood victims in Chattooga County. They say that they will be delivering bottled water, diapers and other sanitary supplies to Chattooga County on Saturday of this week. The donations will be given to area churches in Chattooga County for distribution to the community. Alabama residents that can’t drop off supplies were being encouraged to donate to an Amazon gift registry that has been created by North Summerville Baptist Church for needed items. The Rome Salvation Army is in Chattooga County providing food, water, and spiritual and emotional care to those impacted by this past weekend’s flooding.
The City of Summerville shared this update from the water treatment plant shortly before 9 PM on Thursday evening:
Filters three and four are back in operation, and there is a possibility of having water back in the system by late Friday night if the distribution pumps are working properly.
A boil water advisory will still be in effect for several weeks once the system is pressurized.
Bac T samples will be collected and tested, and when the test yields negative results, the boil water advisory will be lifted.
Bottled water is still available in front of the fire department on Cox St, 8 am to 6 pm, and the tanker truck and water buffalo are available 24 hours a day. ( You must bring your own container)
Governor Kemp officially requested emergency assistance for those affected by the flooding in Chattooga County from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). If FEMA determines that federal assistance is warranted, the request will be sent to the President of the United States for approval.
Work is progressing at the Summerville Water Treatment Plant on Raccoon Creek Road. The plant has been inoperable since Sunday after the facility was subjected to massive flooding. The painstaking work of getting the plant back up and running has been slow, but city officials say progress is being made.
The City of Summerville is receiving a limited amount of water from the Chattooga County Water District and the Town of Trion; but the amount of water is no where near what the city needs to service customers until the water treatment plant on Raccoon Creek Road is back up and running.
