The City of Summerville says that they are providing sandbags are available for anyone that needs them.
The Trion Police Department has some different patrol vehicles thanks to the Trion Town Council’s allocation of $15,000 to purchase a Ford Explorer SUV and a Dodge Charger sedan. The Trion Town Council voted to move $15,000 from the town’s sewer fund to the general fund so that Trion Police Chief David Gilleland could purchase the vehicles. The police chief said that the additional vehicles will cut down on the wear and tear on the department’s current patrol cars.

The Trion Fire Department has released their report for August. Last month, the Trion Fire Department went on a total of 52 calls, one of those with Tri-State Mutual Aid. The fire department also responded to 7 residential fire alarms, 7 commercial fire alarms, 2 vehicle fires, 6 vehicle accidents, 3 gas leaks, 5 calls for trees or power lines down. They also responded to 19 medical assists and two other calls.
A Northwest Georgia deputy chief of police has resigned following his arrest in Florida on solicitation of prostitution charges. On Thursday of this week this week, the Cartersville Police Department announced that Deputy Chief Jason DiPrima resigned from his employment. DiPrima had been placed on administrative leave by the Cartersville Police Department after receiving word about his arrest. DiPrima was arrested in Polk County, Florida on September 1st on charges of “soliciting another for prostitution, lewdness, or assignation.”

Residents of Summerville and Menlo are being reminded that even though water is flowing through the pipes again, you are still under a boil water advisory until further notice. The pressure on the lines began to rebuild on Friday as the treatment plant on Raccoon Road came back online. Some residents will see more water pressure before others. It is important that residents continue to use bottled water for drinking. Remember, this affects only residents who have their water through the City of Summerville or the City of Menlo. If you get your water from the Chattooga County Water District, the Trion City Water Department, the Town of Lyerly or Fort Payne City water – your water is safe to drink. If you have questions about where your water service comes from, check your utility bill for the name and address of the utility that supplies your service.
The November General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Chattooga County voters will have several contested races on the ballot.
It’s that time of year again. The Tillotson Menlo Charitable Foundation will now begin accepting grant applications for 2022. The Foundation began in 2005 with a $1,000,000 donation from Tillotson Corporation and over the next five years the Tillotson Corporation contributed an additional $9,000,000 to the Foundation. The amount of grant money is generally determined by the amount of interest accrued each year on the principle amount in the foundation account.
A thirty-one-year-old Summerville man was arrested on Wednesday of this week for DUI after a Summerville Police officer found him passed out in a car. The man admitted to the officer that he had been driving before being discovered by police.
