Horizon Baptist Fellowship – located on the Lyerly Highway (Highway 114) across from Chattooga High School – has announced that they will have around 200 cases of water to pass out to those in need on Wednesday. The water is expected to be at the church at 11:30 AM.
On Tuesday morning, Menlo Mayor Allan Keen predicted that the city would be out of water at its reservoir by Tuesday afternoon. That prediction came true late Tuesday afternoon. Menlo City officials notified WZQZ News that the town’s reservoir ran out of water around 4:15 PM.
Flooding has caused damage to Lyerly Dam Road and Lyerly Cemetery Road. The roads are closed at this time. If you normally travel those areas, you will need to find a different route.

Menlo Mayor Allan Keen is asking that Menlo water customers conserve water as much as possible today. The mayor is predicting that the city’s water system will not have pressure by this afternoon. The city has been using water from a reservoir to supplement the water system – and that reserve is almost depleted. The mayor says that the City of Summerville is working with the City of Menlo to keep the water buffalo at Menlo City Hall supplied with household water for Menlo water customers. There is also bottled water available at Menlo City Hall and Lucky’s in Menlo is passing out cases of water once again today. Again, if you are a Menlo water customer – please conserve water as much as possible today and be prepared for no water pressure later this afternoon.
The flooding that plagued Chattooga County over Labor Day weekend is being called a flood of “historic proportions”. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia says over 14 inches of rain fell in about an eight-hour period from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Tri-State Weather Meteorologist Patrick Core told WZQZ News a stalled low pressure system over Alabama and plenty of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico created perfect conditions for a horrible situation.
Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey says that the damage to the city’s water treatment plant is unprecedented. The plant was submerged in flood waters on Sunday morning, causing major damage to electrical systems inside the building.
Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton showed WZQZ News flood damage in her office on Monday afternoon. The tax commissioner says that while her office sustained a good bit of damage, no taxpayers personal records or information were compromised because of the flood.
The murder trial of Renee Lanham is being moved to Walker County due to flood damage at the Chattooga County Courthouse. Judge Don Thompson made the decision on Monday to move the trial which has been going on for two weeks already.
