It is back to school today for Trion City School students. Trion School Superintendent Dr. Phil Williams told WZQZ News that teachers and staff are ready and are looking forward to another great year at Trion City Schools.
A Old Highway 27 Trion man called the sheriff’s office last week after he and his father got into an argument over who owned some roosters. According to an incident report released this week, the complainant – Charlie Hawkins – said that his father had come to his house, very irate, and was arguing with him about the animals. The complainant said that he didn’t want his father to come back to his house and wanted the deputy to deliver a criminal trespass warning to his father. The deputy then spoke with the complainant’s father who denied coming to his son’s house. In fact, the father said that Hawkins had come to his residence to argue about the roosters. The father said that he had paperwork to prove that the roosters were his. The responding deputy advised both parties to take their claims to Chattooga County Magistrate Court.
A Hixson Tennessee man was arrested by LaFayette Police after a fight involving himself, his wife and a local man the woman had been staying with, on Smallwood Street.
A Centre, Alabama man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Monday on charges of child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.
Summerville Police served a warrant on a Bittings Avenue woman and found her to be in possession of drugs. According to a report released on Tuesday of this week, the incident happened on July 22nd. When officers arrived at the residence of thirty-five-year-old Clarissa Ann Parriss, she told officers that there was a juvenile present. The officers allowed Parriss to make arrangements for someone to come and get the juvenile. Officers asked Parriss if she had anything illegal that did not need to cross the guard line at the Chattooga County Jail. At first, the woman denied having any illegal substances, but then admitted she had drugs on her person. The woman retrieved suspected crystal methamphetamine and prescription drugs from her bra and handed it to police. In addition to the warrant, Parriss was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of Schedule IV drugs and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
James Roy Smithson, age 88 of Cartersville, GA formerly a long time resident of Summerville, GA passed away on August 3, 2022.

Chattooga County radio station WZQZ is undergoing some management changes. Station owner Jimmy Holbrook and longtime local radio personality Ben Groce announced this week the change at Chattooga County’s only local radio station.
MR. LAMAR W. RICH, age 73, received his wings July 31, 2022 while residing in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was formerly of Trion, Georgia. He was born in Trion, Georgia on November 29, 1948 to the late William (Bill) and Pearl Potts Rich. He was retired from the Public Works Department of Chattooga County and as Pastor of Ark Of Faith Church in Lyerly, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, the late Dale Lamar Rich, a sister, the late Rosey Rich, and brothers, the late Fred Rich and William Rich.
Miss Annie Vivian Millican, age 87, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Miss Millican was born May 9, 1935, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Charles Duke and Allie Ann Robinson Millican. She was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Best Manufacturing. She was also a member of the Best Silver Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Lee Millican and Ray Millican; and a sister, Helen Kilgo.
Survivors include her brother, Charles Millican; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2022, at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Stanley Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Dale Russell, Brian Scott, Brian Kilgo, and Ricky Millican.
Miss Millican will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. on Saturday.
