The United Community Bank (UCB) Foundation is donating $2,500 to Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC).
Summerville Police were called to a Gin Street address last week concerning a theft. A responding officer met with the complainant, Brady Carnes, who told the officer he had left his trailer with his lawn care maintenance equipment at a lot on Gin Street on July 13th. The next day when he returned, several items had been stolen from the trailer. The items included a Stihl weed trimmer, a Husqvarna weed trimmer, a Husqvarna backpack blower and some fuel cans. Mr. Carnes told the responding officer that he would get the serial numbers for the stolen items and bring them to the police department. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
Georgia; great for business, bad for living. At least that’s what a new study from CNBC had to say about the Peach State. The network scored all 50 states on 88 metrics in 10 categories in order to determine the business ranking. In addition, CNBC used the numbers from the “Life, Health, and Inclusion” category to determine lists on the best and worst states to live in.
Georgia gas prices decreased at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $4.04 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 15 cents less than a week ago, 45 cents less than last month, and $1.07 more than this time last year.
Mr. Ronald Isaac “Ronny” Mobley, age 61, of Trion, GA, died Friday, July 15, 2022, at his residence.
Ms. Josie Mae Smith Nichols, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, July 9, 2022, at her residence.

Fall sports registration got underway this past week at the Summerville Recreation Center and will continue through August 13, 2022.
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has begun receiving limited doses of monkeypox vaccine. To date, Georgia has received approximately 3,000 doses of JYNNEOS vaccine – enough for 1,500 individuals since this is a two-dose vaccine series. The vaccine has been distributed upon request to health departments and for vaccination events in two counties. Allocations of monkeypox vaccine from the federal government will increase as production of the vaccine ramps up.
A week ago, the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force arrested a couple at a Chattooga County motel and charged them with drug possession. During the arrest, it was discovered that the couple had also stolen a laptop from the same motel they were staying at.
