This week, the Summerville City Council voted for an entertainment district in the city’s downtown area. The measure will allow for public consumption of alcohol in a designated area that wills stretch from restaurants on Commerce Street to the city-managed Summerville Depot.

A forty-one-year-old Lindale woman has been arrested on a felony warrant charging her with trafficking methamphetamine.

Dr. Phil Williams retirement from the Trion City School system was short-lived. Earlier this year, Dr. Williams had announced his retirement from the school system, and the Trion School Board accepted his retirement and appointed Howard Hughes as Interim Trion City School Superintendent. However, this week the Trion School Board worked out an agreement with Dr. Williams to return as superintendent starting in August. Dr. Williams’ return will save Trion taxpayers money as he is returning on a 49% contractual basis, according to a statement released by the Trion Board of Education.
The Summerville City Council voted unanimously this week to approve a $5,000 donation to the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair that is coming up next month.
Chattooga County Jail inmates have been busy this week picking up hundreds of pounds of trash off Chattooga County’s roadways. Deputy Ken Anderson told WZQZ News on Wednesday of this week, inmates picked up 480 pounds of trash mostly on Giles Road and Ridgeway Road. Inmates also picked up 360 pounds of trash this week on Starling Mill Road, Farmersville Road, New Hope South Road and Johnson Road. Anderson said that doesn’t include the aluminum cans that were picked up this week. Those cans are cashed in for money that is used to help feed the inmates who work the litter patrols in the county. Earlier this year in April, when inmates picked up over 2,400 pounds of trash in a week’s time, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said, ” Litter is awful. PLEASE don’t throw out your trash into the roadsides of OUR county.”
It may sound like something out of the future, but the technology is here that allows delivery services to take advantage of delivery robots to homes and businesses. The Georgia General Assembly is addressing the issue with a new law that will govern delivery robots and allow local governments to pass regulations for their use.
Northwest Georgia’s blood supply is in dire need of replenishment, according to Blood Assurance.
