The Summerville City Council will hold their regular monthly meeting for May coming up this evening at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall.

The council has a full agenda for this evening’s meeting.  Council members will be discussing plans for a downtown entertainment zone.  The zone will be similar to the one that the City of Rome has recently designated.  A representative from the City of Rome will be at tonight’s meeting to talk with council members.

Also on the agenda, the council will discuss the possibility of a dog park for the city.  The council is expected to discuss a location for the proposed park.

Regular Council meetings, are scheduled for the 2nd Monday of the month. The Regular Council Meeting will be on May 9th, at 5PM, at City Hall. The meeting will also be available to attend as a virtual meeting that can be joined by telephone or by computer/smart phone.

Summerville Council Agenda 05 09 22

A Filter Plant Road, Summerville man reported the theft of several tools from his residence last week.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the complainant said that two men had come to his property a day or two before the report and had asked to purchase some parts.  The complainant told the deputy that he thought it was suspicious, but realized that they were looking for something to steal after he found several tools missing from the property.  The complainant was able to provide a list of the tools that were taken to the deputy and the incident was turned over to an investigator.

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding taxpayers that her office will be closed for training tomorrow through Thursday.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced last week, the arrest of the former owner of a Fort Payne-based speech and physical therapy company for filing false claims totaling $1.2 million with the Alabama Medicaid Agency for speech therapy services for children that were never provided. Kimberly Huggins Hamilton, 53, surrendered May 4, 2022, to the DeKalb County Jail and is being held on $30,000 bail.

Mickey Gilley, often credited with a revival in popularity of country music with the Urban Cowboy sound, in the late 1970’s, passed away on Saturday at the age of 86.  Gilley, a native of Natchez, Mississippi, grew up just across the Mississippi River from his famous cousins, Jimmy Swaggart and Jerry Lee Lewis.
