Chattooga Schools Update 2022-2023 Calendar

The Chattooga County School System released an updated 2022-2023 school calendar this week.  The calendar reflects the new four-day school week for the next school year.  The school board voted to go back to a four-day calendar at the March Board of Education Meeting.  The new schedule released shows the hours for students.  Children from kindergarten to eighth grade will be in school from 8 AM until 3:30 PM.  Students at Chattooga High School will start their school day at 7:45 AM and will be released at 3:30 PM on Tuesday – Friday.  You can see the full calendar below:

Menlo Elementary Reach Scholar Named

A Menlo Elementary student was named the Reach Scholar for the school last week.  REACH Georgia was launched on February 6, 2012 at Georgia Institute of Technology with the announcement of AT&T being REACH’s first corporate partner with a donation of $250,000.  Today, with many more corporate sponsors, the program serves students in all 159 counties in Georgia.

Mobile Home Taxes Due In Less Than Two Weeks

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding mobile home owners in the county that mobile home taxes are due on April 1, 2022.  While property taxes are due in December each year, mobile home taxes are due on the first day of April.  Every mobile home in the county, no matter what it is being used for, must pay the mobile home tax.  You can pay your mobile home taxes online by visiting the tax commissioner’s web site which can be found here. Also, the tax office has a twenty-four-hour drop box located on the side of the building where you can pay your taxes anytime.

Norfolk-Southern Bridge Holding Up Passenger Trains To Summerville

The familiar sight of passenger trains bringing tourists to Summerville has been missing for quite sometime due to a bridge that is out of commission.  That bridge, located just outside Chattanooga is owned by Norfolk-Southern Railway and is in need of repair before passenger train excursions can continue.
