Trion Town Council Meeting Thursday Evening

The Town of Trion will have their March town council meeting on Thursday evening, March 24th at 6 PM at Trion Town Hall.   The council will be considering bids to re-roof the Trion Recreation Center at the meeting.  Also on the agenda, the council will be discussing the town’s 2021-2022 audit with a presentation from Christian Hatch.   The council is also expected to issue a proclamation in honor of Library Week and discuss the town’s policy on police department use of a vehicle.  You can see the entire agenda for the meeting below:

Power Outage From Spring Creek Road To Highway 100

Around 425 Georgia Power customers are in the dark this morning in an outage that stretches from Spring Creek Road to Highway 100.  WZQZ’s transmitter site on Taylor’s Ridge is in that area and we are without power.  The estimated restoration time is 6:30 AM, according to Georgia Power.

AAA Cruise Travel Rebounding In 2022

AAA Travel says cruising is making a strong comeback after the pandemic temporarily put a hold on sailings. The Auto Club Group’s travel agency reports that cruise bookings during the past four weeks are twice as strong as this time last year and expects that positive momentum to continue through the travel season.

Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested

A Floyd County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after a financial audit revealed irregularities in an account.  Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson said that when the problem came to light, he enlisted the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department’s books.

Rep. Greene Comes Under Fire For Russian Trade Vote

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Rome came under fire from fellow Republicans this week after she voted to preserve Russia’s “most-favored” trade status in a vote last week in Congress.  Fellow Republicans have expressed alarm at some of Greene’s statements following the vote.

State Rep. Eddie Lumsden Weekly Legislative Report

State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) released his weekly legislative report from the Georgia General Assembly.  Last week was Crossover Day which is the last day for legislation to pass from one chamber to another.  Lumsden said it was a long and busy day for lawmakers.  Lumsden said one of the bills passed last week deals with low-income Georgia students who are trying to access financial aid to complete their college degrees.  The bill would provide for students to apply for a $2500 grant in funding to help cover financial aid gaps.  Also, the House passed legislation that would help low-income areas of the state with funding for construction projects.  You can read Rep.
