The Chattooga County Republican Party has announced a “Meet the Candidate” event that will be held this Saturday at the Chattooga County Civic Center at Noon.
A Floyd County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after a financial audit revealed irregularities in an account. Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson said that when the problem came to light, he enlisted the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department’s books.
Summerville Police were called to Summerville Gardens apartments this week after a woman said that a mattress frame had been stolen from her front porch.
U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Rome came under fire from fellow Republicans this week after she voted to preserve Russia’s “most-favored” trade status in a vote last week in Congress. Fellow Republicans have expressed alarm at some of Greene’s statements following the vote.
State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) released his weekly legislative report from the Georgia General Assembly. Last week was Crossover Day which is the last day for legislation to pass from one chamber to another. Lumsden said it was a long and busy day for lawmakers. Lumsden said one of the bills passed last week deals with low-income Georgia students who are trying to access financial aid to complete their college degrees. The bill would provide for students to apply for a $2500 grant in funding to help cover financial aid gaps. The Chattooga County School System released an updated 2022-2023 school calendar this week. The calendar reflects the new four-day school week for the next school year. The school board voted to go back to a four-day calendar at the March Board of Education Meeting. The new schedule released shows the hours for students. Children from kindergarten to eighth grade will be in school from 8 AM until 3:30 PM. Students at Chattooga High School will start their school day at 7:45 AM and will be released at 3:30 PM on Tuesday – Friday. You can see the full calendar below:

A Menlo Elementary student was named the Reach Scholar for the school last week. REACH Georgia was launched on February 6, 2012 at Georgia Institute of Technology with the announcement of AT&T being REACH’s first corporate partner with a donation of $250,000. Today, with many more corporate sponsors, the program serves students in all 159 counties in Georgia.
