Winter Storm Warning Update

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia updated the Winter Storm Warning for Chattooga, Walker and Dade County at 2:22 AM on Sunday morning.  The statement says that temperatures will begin to fall later this morning and we could frozen precipitation.  The temperature is going to be the key factor.  Lookout Mountain will almost certainly see ice or snow later this morning.  The colder air is expected to arrive around 10 AM this morning.  Will it be cold enough to turn rain to snow in the valley?  We still don’t know.  Temperatures across the area are in the mid to upper 30’s as of 6:15 AM.  Summerville is reporting 39 degrees and we have reports of a temperature of 40 degrees in the Gore/Subligna area.  Cloudland has a temperature of 35 degrees.  Wind will also be a factor today.  There is a wind advisory in place and we could see wind gusts of up to 35 mph.  This could be an issue for power outages, regardless of any frozen precipitation.  A large power outage is being reported this morning at Cloudland (Walker County) affecting over 100 homes.  A smaller outage is reported in the Haywood Valley community, affecting about 5 homes.  WZQZ will continue to monitor the weather throughout the day.  Listen to local news on the radio and check back here and on our Facebook Page.
