Chattooga County was inundated with a lot of rain in a short period of time, which led to multiple flooding issues throughout the county on Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
Mr. Johnny Lamar Cundiff, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, June 18, 2021, at his residence.
Mr. Cundiff was born March 30, 1954, in Trion, GA, son of the late John A. and Mable Lee Padgett Cundiff. He was Baptist by faith and was a self-employed roofer. Mr. Cundiff enjoyed fishing and panning for gold as well as doing mechanic work on cars. He also loved helping his neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-sister, Kay Hamby.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Adams Cundiff; sons, David (Stephanie) Cundiff, Author Cundiff, and Jason Cundiff; daughter, Deborah (Richard) Bailey; brothers, Jimmy (Carleen) Cundiff, Robert (Judy) Cundiff, and Ray Cundiff; a sister, Linda (Marvin) Bray; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cundiff will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Monday, June 21, 2021.

A Summerville man was arrested this weekend in neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama. According to arrest reports from the Cherokee County Detention Center, thirty-one-year-old Michael Kinsey Hayes was arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice.

Emergency responders and law enforcement responded to the scene of an accident in the early-morning hours of Saturday on Welcome Hill Road in Trion. Law enforcement, along with the Trion Fire Department and Redmond EMS all worked the accident. The single-vehicle accident resulted in minor injuries after a car overturned.
