The Town of Trion Council meeting that was scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 22 has been moved to Tuesday, July 28 at 6 PM.
North Summerville Baptist Church along with Hope for the Hungry will be giving away free food boxes along with boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables Thursday July 23 from 10:00 am through 1:00 pm. The food will be given out in the parking lot. Please remain in your vehicle and the items will be placed in your car.
Saturday July 25th starting at 11:00AM at North Summerville Baptist Church along with “Forever Grateful Ministries” will be giving away backpacks, school supplies, shoes, bicycles, toys, hair cuts, essential boxes filled with soap, laundry detergent and other hygiene items, and more. A hot meal will be provided to those attending. All items are on a first come first serve basis. Our goal is to expand the kingdom of God, help those who are in need of personal and spiritual assistance. Counselors will be on hand to talk with you. All CDC guidelines will be followed.

Several hundred people are still without power at Cloudland after strong storms moved through the area on Tuesday evening. Straight-line wind gusts over 60 miles-per-hour were reported as heavy rain, wind and hail were reported. A large portion of the county received the heavy rain, thunder and lightning, but it appears that the Lookout Mountain area had several trees down and some minor damage is being reported.
A Summerville man was arrested at Redmond Regional Medical Center after a K9 search found MDMA and meth in his car, reports stated.
Over the weekend, WZQZ News reported that the Chattooga County Convenience Center trash site in the Mountain View area would be closed this week. Public Works Director Joe Reed says that plans are to reopen the site next week.
In a social media post this week, Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, posted that they will be closing all of their stores on Thanksgiving Day this year.
Many businesses are now requiring customers to wear a face mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some people have questioned if businesses can refuse service to those who refuse to wear face masks. The simple answer is: “Yes”.
Summerville Police received a report of counterfeit money this week. A complainant told a responding officer that she had received a $10 bill and some $1 bills as change at Jack’s Restaurant over the weekend. Earlier this week, the complainant went into the Pure Stop on the Lyerly Highway to make a purchase, and was told that the $10 was counterfeit. Summerville Police are investigating.
