Georgia Northwestern Technical College will be hosting a Driver’s Education spread out over four Saturdays. The Course begins Saturday, November 10 and runs through Saturday, December 1. The course meets the requirements for Joshua’s Law, which requires 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of drive time with a certified instructor. The course also qualifies individuals or the Teen Driver’s Education insurance discount. The cost of the class is $350.
Registration will be held at the Chattooga County Education Center (Old Summerville Elementary School) on Monday, October 29 through Wednesday October 31 from 9am until 12 noon. Participants should access the school from the Maple Drive entrance located at 286 Maple Drive, Summerville.

Several Chattooga 4Hers took a trip to the Classic City, Athens, Georgia, last weekend. The trip was a leadership event where the students learned about higher education at The University of Georgia. Students explored the UGA campus, learned about financial aid and scholarship opportunities, degree programs, campus life, and the admissions process. Among the 4H College leaders hosting the event was CHS Alumni and UGA Freshman Hamp Thomas. Thomas took students on a campus tour and participated in leadership and team building activities with students. 4H offers many opportunities for Chattooga County students to develop skills needed to help them build a better future.
CHS will be hosting a Financial Aid Workshop on Wednesday, November 7th from 6-8pm. Financial Aid experts will be present to help students and parents complete paperwork needed to register for financial assistance at the college level. If you are a CHS Senior or parent/guardian of a senior you will want to attend this workshop to get started on your student’s FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid). Chattooga’s FFA students competed at Cass High School in area events. Junior Catherine Villatoro placed 3rd overall in Region and earned a gold emblem award. In the Senior Meat Evaluation Category the FFA team placed 5th overall and also earned a gold emblem. Team members are Chayse Culbert, Grace Dooley, and Kaitlyn Williams. The Junior Ag Mechanic Team placed 4th overall and earned gold emblems. The team had the highest electrical wiring score for the entire contest. Team are William Elrod, Benjamin Colbert, Caden Smith, and Dwson Tucker. Caden Smith placed first and William Elrod placed second in the individual Ag Mechanics Category.
Chattooga’s Marching Band traveled south to Pierce County on Saturday, October 20th. The band competed in the Sound of Silver Marching Festival. They earned Superior Ratings in all categories. This is the third marching festival of the season for the band. They have earned all superior ratings at each festival. They will compete Saturday November 1st in Newnan, Georgia.
A child was hit by an unoccupied vehicle Tuesday morning on Larkspur Lane off Shorter Avenue in West Rome.
The Trion High School marching band will compete in Rome, GA’s Peach State Marching Festival and Competition this weekend.
This weekend will be the Peach State Competition’s 45th year as a Northwest Georgia marching band fall tradition The opening ceremony is Saturday at 1 PM at Barron Stadium behind Floyd Medical Center. Admission is $8, and programs are $5. Trion will perform at approximately 2:35 PM.
Proceeds from the festival will help offset the expenses of the Rome City Schools band programs.
