Chattooga County EMA / 911 will be hosting a Blood Assurance blood drive coming up on Friday, August 23rd from 10 AM until 3 PM. The blood drive will be held at the Chattooga County EMA Building, located at 170 Farrar Drive in Summerville.

Summerville, Georgia has the designation as the “Friendship Capital of the World” and coming up one week from this Saturday, on July 27th, the annual Friendship Festival will take place at Dowdy Park in downtown Summerville. The festival will run from 10 AM until 3 PM and will feature kids activities, music, food and craft vendors and the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Passenger Train at the historic Summerville Depot. Leading up to the Friendship Festival, Summerville Main Street is encouraging area residents to take part in Friendship Week activities. Each day will be designated as a way to show friendship in the Friendship Capital of the World.
The annual Twisted ankle Trail Races will be held at Sloppy Floyd State Park on September 7, 2024. Three race distances are offered with a 5K (3.1 miles), a 10 Mile race, and a Half Marathon (13.1 miles) for every level of experience. The race has been held since 2005, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park. There’s Hope for the Hungry will be at South Summerville Baptist Church Wednesday June 17th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Food must be picked up in person.
The Summerville Recreation Department is planning a parade next week to honor the 8 & Under Boys and Girls State Champion teams.
A fundraiser for the Chattooga 4H Shotgun Team will be held next month at the Floyd County Wildlife Club, located just off Highway 100, just across the Chattooga-Floyd County line. The sporting clays fundraiser will take place on Saturday, August 24th at 9 AM. The registration fee is $500 for a four-person team. All participants will need to provide their own shells and sign a waiver provided by the Floyd County Wildlife Club. Lunch is included. The first place team will receive an $800 cash prize, and there will be various door prizes given away.
