Summerville Announces 2024 Downtown Scarecrow Contest

Summerville Main Street has announced the 2024 Downtown Scarecrow Contest. Individuals, business, churches, schools and business organizations are encouraged to enter the contest.  First place prize is $100, second place is $50 and third place is $25.  Scarecrows should be constructed between September 30th and October 3rd.  Official registration forms and rules are available at Summerville City Hall on Georgia Avenue and at the Summerville Main Street Office.  Registration deadline is September 27th.

Chattooga Class Of 1968 Plans Reunion

The Chattooga High School Class of 1968 will hold a reunion coming up next month on September 21st.  They will be meeting at the Pick-O-Deli Restaurant in Rome at 2 PM for a time of fellowship before eating.  Anyone with questions may contact Steve Ayers at 706-859-1312, Yvonne Norton at 706-859-1016 or Kathy Dillard at 706-936-1197.

 

Menlo School Grandparents Night Next Month

Menlo Elementary School PTO is inviting parents – and grandparents – to attend the PTO meeting in September.  It will be “Grandparents Night” on Thursday, September 5th.  There will be snacks, crafts and a photo booth and an open house from 4 PM until 6 PM.  Parents and grandparents will also be able to visit classrooms and are invited to stay for the PTO meeting at 6 PM.

MLK Committee Fun Day At Lyerly Ball Field

The Chattooga County M.L.K Commission Committee is inviting the community out to a “FUN DAY” that will be held at the Lyerly Ball Field on Monday, September 2, 2024.  The event will get underway at noon.  Bring lawn chairs and tents and everyone is invited to attend.

Labor Day Gospel Fest Monday September 2nd at Cloudland Community Park

There will be a Labor Day Gospel Fest on Monday September 2nd at the Cloudland Community Park.  The event will run from 10am until 2pm Eastern time.  The Gospel Fest is sponsored by the Cloudland Volunteer Fire Department.  There will be no admission fee.  BBQ lunches will be sold for $10 consisting of a BBQ sandwich, chips & dessert.  There will be an open mic for Gospel music and sound equipment is provided.  Bring your instruments and join in!  The Cloudland Community Park is located at 284 Gadsden Avenue in Cloudland.

There’s Hope For The Hungry will be at South Summerville Baptist Church this Wednesday August 21st from 10: a.m. until 1:00 p.m. You must be present to pick up food.

Center Post Community Center Free Concert

Levi and Luke Hopkins will be in concert at Center Post Community Center on Saturday August 17, 2024 starting at 7 PM EST. Free admission. Everyone is invited to attend. Concessions will be available for purchase. Our menu consists of hotdogs with chili, chips, soft drinks, water, coffee and homemade desserts. Center Post Community Center is located at 8125 HWY 337 in southern Walker County, just north of Teloga.

Chattooga Lodge 704 Hobo Dinner

Chattooga Lodge 704, located at 2 Millican Street in Summerville, will be having their annual Hobo Supper coming up on Saturday, September 14th.  Plates are $8 each and will consist of pinto beans, corn bread, fried potatoes and cold slaw.  The meal will be served from 11 AM until 2 PM.

Chattooga Class Of 1984 Class Reunion

The Chattooga High School Class of 1984 is planning a 40th Class Reunion in October.  The event will be held at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center, located on Middle School Drive off Highway 100 in Summerville.  An invitation is being extended to classmates, faculty and staff who attended or taught at Chattooga High School from 1981 to 1986.  The cost is $25 per person and will include finger foods, dinner and door prizes.  Class group photos will be taken at an additional cost of $14 for an 8×10.  Those planning to attend should RSVP to Annette Ward Lanham at 706-802-8823 (call or text).  Deadline to RSVP is September 30, 2024.  No one will be permitted to attend without a ticket – no exceptions.
