Salvation Army Angel Tree Applications Open For Chattooga, Floyd & Polk Counties

With the skyrocketing costs of nearly everything over the past year, there’s a growing need in our community as the holidays approach. Right now, The Salvation Army in Rome is seeking to help children and seniors who need assistance this holiday season.  The Salvation Army in Rome serves Floyd, Polk and Chattooga Counties. The deadline is nearing to sign up for The Angel Tree Program, which provides gifts for children and seniors to families in need. There’s Hope for the Hungry will be giving away free groceries this Thursday, October 13, at the Central Avenue Baptist Church at 14074 Central Avenue in Trion. The times of this event is from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. No ID is required.

Song Farmers Final Music Gathering At Dowdy Park This Saturday October 8th

The Song Farmers of Summerville will be having their next live music gathering this Saturday October 8th at 4pm. This will be their final gathering in Dowdy park for 2022. They will be moving to Fairway Recreation center in Summerville November thru March.

BBQ Fundraiser This Saturday October 8th To Benefit Cancer Navigator

There will be a cancer fundraiser at North Summerville Baptist Church this Saturday October 8th from  11am to 2pm. BBQ plates will be sold for $10. All money raised goes to Cancer Navigator to buy gas cards for those that can’t afford to by gas to get to their treatments.

Quilt Show Coming Up This Weekend In Summerville

The Sequoyah Quilt Show is coming up this Saturday and Sunday, October 8th and 9th at the historic Summerville Depot. Quilts of all ages, colors, patterns, and designs will be on display, along with live quilting demonstrations. The show will feature antique and rare quilts from Chattooga county. Strip Quilts made in the late 1800’s-early 1900’s from flour sacks will appeal to quilt historians that may attend. T-shirt quilts will also be highlighted. Those interested in exhibiting or selling at this event may contact Summerville Main Street at (706) 859-0900 Ext 1337. Admission is free.

Trion Homecoming Parade To Be Held Wednesday Evening

Trion High School will be having a Homecoming Parade on Wednesday evening at 6:30pm.  All floats and participants need to be at the high school parking lot by 6:30 pm on Wednesday, 09.28.22. The parade will depart at 7:00 pm. The parade procession will move from the front of the high school towards the main entrance, turn right on Allgood Street, and follow Allgood to Park Ave. The parade will make a left turn on Park Ave to move to the Recreation Department. The parade will end at the Trion Recreation Department.

Trion United Methodist Church Stew Sale This Saturday October 1st

Trion United Methodist Church will have their Brunswick Stew available Saturday, October 1st. It is $9 per quart. The stew is sold on a first come first served basis. Reminder calls do not guarantee stew will be available. You may pick up your stew around 10:00 a.m. thru 1:00 p.m.

Also, the United Methodist Men will have a Bake Sale with a selection of cookies, brownies, fried pies, cakes and other goodies.

Sum Nelly Returns This Weekend

Sum Nelly is a festival celebrating the coming of Fall. It has been a local tradition for over 36 years. You can find “Sum” people from all over the southeast and “Nelly” anything under the sun at Sum Nelly! Good food, crafts and fun! Interested vendors may contact the Summerville Recreation Department at (706) 859-0900. Sum Nelly will take place this Saturday, October 1st at Dowdy Park in downtown Summerville.

Chattooga Wrestling Team Selling Boston Butts This Week

The Chattooga High School wrestling team will be selling boston butts starting on September the 15th and ending on October 2nd.  Pickup will be at the Chattooga High School on October the 8th from 8am to noon.  All proceeds cover costs for the upcoming wrestling season.

Each boston butt will be sold for $45 or you can buy a plate for $10.  Plates include meat, beans, potato salad and a canned drink.  Please make checks payable to Chattooga Wrestling.  For more information you can contact Andy Stivers at 706-512-2606.
