Gathering around the table for a Thanksgiving dinner won’t take as much of a toll on your pocketbook this year compared to 2022, but the meal still reflects historically high costs. The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 38th annual survey provides a snapshot of the average cost of this year’s classic holiday feast for 10, which is $61.17 or less than $6.20 per person.
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) will be out in full force and advise motorists to drive safely and have patience this Thanksgiving holiday. The 102-hour holiday travel period begins this evening at 6 PM and ends at 11:59 PM Sunday, November 26.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader spoke with WZQZ News on Tuesday about a Trion man who went missing and was believed to have been on Taylor’s Ridge for several days. According to the sheriff, Kevin White was reported missing by family members on November 13th, after he went to Taylor’s Ridge in the Mountain View / Spring Creek area of northeastern Chattooga County.

A twenty-five-year-old Tennessee man was charged with DUI in Chattooga County earlier this month. According to a report released by the Georgia State Patrol on Monday of this week, a state trooper clocked Isaac Booth doing over the posted speed limit on Highway 48 near the Menlo ball fields shortly after 10:30 PM on November 11th.
The murder trial of Desmond Lavonta Brown continued yesterday in Cherokee County, Alabama Superior Court. Brown, a Georgia resident, is accused of murdering two sisters from Floyd County, Georgia and dumping their bodies near the Etowah River in Rome.
Cartersville resident Bobby Wilkins was driving home from town when he felt an all-to-familiar tingle come over the left side of his body. Nearing his house, Wilkins called his son and told him to take him to the hospital immediately.
Funeral and celebration services will take place across Georgia next week for Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady who died Sunday at the age of 96. Mrs. Carter, like her husband and former President Jimmy Carter, were lifelong residents of Plains, Georgia in Sumter County. Funeral arrangements start next Monday in Americus, where the former First Lady of Georgia and the United States will be in repose at her alma mater, Georgia Southwestern State University. From there, the body of Mrs. Carter will be taken to the Carter Center in Atlanta. The public will be able to pay their respects from 6 PM – 10 PM in the lobby of the Carter Center. Then on Tuesday at 1 PM, a service will be held at Emory University in Atlanta. On Wednesday, Mrs. Carter’s remains will return to Plains where a private service will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church – where she and President Carter have been members since 1981. Mrs. Carter’s final resting place will be at the home she and President Carter built together in Plains.
