Chattooga County property owners have been asking, “When will we see our property tax bills?”. Normally, we would just be a couple of weeks away from the deadline to pay those taxes, but the tax bills haven’t been prepared or sent out because of the huge number of property tax assessment appeals.
The Trion Lions Club will be having their annual fresh Georgia pecan sale. Halves and pieces are $12, Chocolate is $9 and Glazed are $8. The pecans are available at Trion Drugs, Economy Pharmacy in Summerville and Crossroads Pharmacy in Menlo.
Here is the latest arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for Wednesday, November 8, 2023:
On Friday of last week, a Summerville Police officer noticed a man and woman outside the Providence Thrift Store at the old Bi-Lo Building in Summerville. The officer approached the two and the man told the officer that he was there “praying” for the woman and asked to be left alone. The woman was a known drug offender, but the officer didn’t recognize the man. A short time later, the officer noticed the man coming out of a nearby gas station and he appeared to be under the influence of some sort of drug. After a consent to search his person, the officer found a suspected meth pipe in the man’s pocket. The suspect said that he was only “holding” the pipe for the woman he had been seen with earlier. Twenty-three-year-old Justin Ragan was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County jail on charges of public intoxication.
The Region Champion Trion Bulldogs will be taking on St. Francis this Friday evening at Sam R. McCain Stadium. WZQZ’s Ben Groce and Jeremy Burke will be broadcasting the game on 99.1 FM with the pregame show starting at 7 PM and kickoff at 7:30 PM. Unfortunately, due to GHSA rules, WZQZ has not been given access to bring the public a live video stream of the event.
The 2023 Veterans Day Lunch is just days away, to be held on Friday, November 10th. All veterans are invited to have lunch together at 12 noon at the Chattooga County Courthouse. The lunch is sponsored by VFW Post 6688, United Community Bank, other businesses, and friends.
A man who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Floyd County Jail last week has been identified as a forty-three-year-old inmate who was being held for the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Brandon Keith White was arrested on charges in Chattooga County for aggravated assault, aggravated battery, cruelty to a person 65 years old or older, and battery. White was arrested in Menlo on June 23rd of this year after he was accused of attacking a family member. This past Saturday, Floyd County Jail staff found White unresponsive in his cell and initiated lifesaving efforts before EMS took White to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The GBI is currently investigating the inmate’s death.
A sixty-four-year-old Armuchee man was arrested for threats he made on October 31st. According to Floyd County Jail reports Bret Alva Jones made the threats towards a woman over the phone and the threats were recorded. Jones was arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail on a felony warrant.
