Car Stolen In Summerville

Summerville Police reported the theft of a vehicle on Monday.  According to a report from the police department, the victim – Ambar Zayas – flagged down an officer on First Avenue and told him that her Volkswagen Jetta had just been stolen.  The officer was able to locate the vehicle at an abandoned house on Hammond Street.  No one was around the vehicle, and police report that the woman’s keys were missing.  Also, a 9MM pistol and an I-phone and several other personal items were missing from the vehicle.  The incident is still under investigation.

Georgia Sees A $5 Billion Surplus For The Last Fiscal Year

Georgia will collect another $5 billion in surplus revenue after the just-concluded budget year, which could leave lawmakers and Gov. Brian Kemp with more than $10 billion in extra cash to spend, invest or give back to taxpayers. That’s about $1,000 for every Georgia resident.

Commissioner Announces All County Offices To Close Thursday From 3-5pm In Honor Of Gary McConnell

In a press release Wednesday afternoon, Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry made the following statement regarding county offices closing Thursday afternoon in honor of the late Gary McConnell:

“In honor of former Chattooga County Sheriff Gary McConnell, all county offices will close Thursday July 13, 2023 from 3pm to 5pm.  We will take this time to remember Mr. McConnell’s 20 years of dedicated service to the people of Chattooga County.”

Jailed Man Receives Additional Charges

A Summerville man already in jail on charges on outstanding warrants, is facing additional charges from the Summerville Police Department.  Earlier, this month Derrick Hogue was arrested on the outstanding warrants after police came to his residence to arrest his brother for stealing a bicycle.  Police reviewed video surveillance from White’s Tire and Alignment from June 30th that showed a prowler entering a vehicle on the business’s premises.  Police believed it to be the man who was arrested on the outstanding warrants.  Police went to the Chattooga County Jail to speak with the suspect. When first asked by police about the incident, Derrick Hogue denied entering the vehicle, but later admitted to it.  Hogue was additionally charged with entering a motor vehicle with intent to commit theft.

New AED’s For Cherokee County, AL Fire Departments -Including Cloudland

Cloudland Fire Department will be receiving new life-saving equipment courtesy of the Cherokee County, Alabama County Commission.  Cloudland is considered one of the 13 fire departments that operates in Cherokee County and is the only area fire department that has fire stations in two counties – and two states.

Transfer Truck Collides With Trash Truck On Highway 140

A fiery accident on Highway 140 in the Armuchee area on Wednesday morning closed the highway for six hours.  The road is a main route between Highway 27 and Interstate 75 via Adairsville.  According to Floyd County Police on the scene, a trash truck was picking up garbage along its regular route when the semi-truck crashed into the trash truck.  The semi caught on fire.  Fire crews along with EMS and police were on the scene rerouting traffic throughout the morning.  Police say that both the trash truck driver and the semi drive sustained non life-threatening injuries.
