This week, AdventHealth Redmond announced construction on a 40,000 square-foot medical office building that will be home to the AdventHealth Redmond Heart and Vascular Institute. Site preparation has already begun, and construction will continue through March 2026.

A 25-year-old Rome man was arrested by Floyd County Police after being found unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle, leading to a series of charges including trafficking fentanyl and attempting to elude police. Authorities identified the suspect as Mibzar Maquito Perez, who was discovered slumped over in his vehicle on North Elm Street at Verbana Avenue. Upon arrival, Rome police officers requested that Perez exit the vehicle; however, he instead took off, initiating a pursuit through several residential neighborhoods.

A late-night shooting in Ider, Alabama in neighboring DeKalb County has left one woman injured and sparked a significant law enforcement response. At approximately 11:26 PM on January 14, DeKalb County Deputies, along with the Henagar and Ider Police Departments, were dispatched to Red Bud Drive following reports of a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Today, residents can expect stable weather as a weak surface high and westerly upper-level flow settle over the Southeast. Moisture from the Eastern Pacific is expected to bring some high-level cloud cover, which may slightly inhibit daytime temperatures; however, the forecast still predicts afternoon highs to hover around seasonal averages, with temperatures a degree or two warmer than initially anticipated.
