Tractor Supply Company announced on Thursday that they were abolishing their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – or DEI – policies after pressure from customers. The Brentwood, Tennessee-based company operates 2,250 stores nationwide, including one in Summerville.
In a prepared statement on Thursday, company officials said, “We have heard from customers that we have disappointed them. We have taken this feedback to heart”.
The company went on to say that they invest in the rural and urban communities they serve and are longtime sponsors of 4-H and FFA programs across the nation. The statement went on to say, “We are passionate about being good neighbors in our hometowns because without you, we would not be what we are”.
DEI policies, designed to seek to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly groups who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination on the basis of identity or disability. But many conservatives feel that the policies are part of an effort to push LBGQT agendas.

- Eliminate DEI roles and retire our current DEI goals while still ensuring a respectful environment
- Withdraw our carbon emission goals and focus on our land and water conservation efforts

A forty-two-year-old Summerville man and his seventeen-year-old daughter were both taken to jail this week after a domestic altercation at their home on West Washington Street.
Numbers released on Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor show that the unemployment rate for the Northwest Georgia region saw an increase from April to May of this year.
The Summerville City Council has abolished the building inspector’s position after a called meeting on Wednesday of this week. That doesn’t mean that city residents don’t have to get a building permit. And it doesn’t mean that they won’t have to have the work done by a licensed contractor. And they will still have to get the work inspected; but they will have to hire their own inspector to do it.
The City of Summerville issued a notice on Thursday about the rules at the Summerville Cemetery. City Officials say that all rules will be enforced beginning in August of this year.

Update 8 PM:
Trooper Doug Shamblin with the Georgia State Patrol told WZQZ News on Thursday evening that a sixty-two-year-old Trion man was struck and killed after stepping out into traffic on Highway 27 in Trion near Peach State Credit Union around 4:30 PM. Trooper Shamblin said that James Kay walked into the path of a southbound vehicle and was struck. He was taken to the nearby Chattooga Emergency Department, but succumbed to his injuries.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Highway 27 in Trion near Peach State Federal Credit Union around 4:30 this (Thursday) afternoon. The victim was transported but their condition has not been released. The Georgia State Patrol is working the accident. WZQZ News will have more information as it becomes available.
