Last week, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a burglary on Oak Hill Baptist Church Road in the Gore area.  The responding deputy spoke with the owner of the property that is currently being renovated.  The complainant said that he and his wife arrived at the property and discovered that someone had broken into the house.  The responding deputy reported that he could see damage done to the entry way of the residence.  Once inside the house, the burglars found the key to the garage and that items were missing from both the garage and a storage building on the property.  The incident was turned over to an investigator with the sheriff’s office.

Today is the last day to request an absentee ballot for the March 12, 2024 Presidential Preference Primary.   Absentee ballot requests must be requested by the close of business today at the Chattooga County Registrars Office, located at 10017 Commerce Street in Summerville, just past the Chattooga County Courthouse. At the end of the day on Thursday, the Chattooga County Registrars Office had issued 73 Absentee by Mail ballots, accepted 26 Absentee by Mail ballots, and had 634 cast a ballot during Advance Voting. Early voting will continue next week from 8:30 AM until 5 PM.  Voters will have the opportunity to vote tomorrow, Saturday, March 2, 2024.  Saturday voting hours are from 9 AM until 5 PM.  Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote.

The body of a man discovered on the railroad tracks between Old Airport Road and Kirton Street in West Rome Wednesday evening has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Advance Voting continues in the Presidential Preference Primary at the Chattooga County Registrars Office.  As of close of voting on Wednesday, there had been sixty-three absentee by mail ballots issued and twenty-one of those had been returned and accepted by the registrars office.  So far, 572 voters have cast in-person ballots in the Presidential Preference Primary.  There have not been any provisional ballots.  Voters have until tomorrow, Friday, March 1, 2024 to request an absentee by mail ballot for this election.  Saturday voting will take place this Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 9 AM until 5 PM.  Advance voting continues next week, March 4- March 8, 2024 from 8:30 AM until 5 PM each day.  All early voting takes place at the Chattooga County Registrars Office located at 10017 Commerce Street in Summerville, just south of the Chattooga County Courthouse.

Yesterday, Georgia School Supt. Richard Woods named 276 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools from 99 school districts for 2024.  Trion High School made the list as a AP Challenge School.
