Mr. Walker Leon Peppers, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Peppers was born April 27, 1956, in Trion, GA, son of the late Charles Walker Peppers and Marion Janette Blackmon Peppers. He was a member of Living Waters Ministries, and prior to his retirement, was employed as an iron worker.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Isaacson Peppers; children, Kirklan (Lexi) Peppers, Melissa (Dewey) Tinnermon, Carly Peppers, Cody (Alyssa) Marshall, Jeremy (Erica) Marshall, Chris (Debbie) Marshall, and Josh Marshall; a brother, Larry “Hank” (Debra) Peppers; 19 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and special cousins that are like sisters, Tammy Blackmon Hensley, Marion Ruth Blackmon Smith, Lillie Blackmon Godfrey, and Mickey Blackmon Vaughn.

Memorial services for Mr. Peppers will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Living Waters Ministries with Rev. Billy Wright officiating.

Patricia Joan Campbell, Obit (M)

Mrs. Patricia Joan Campbell, age 80, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, April 15, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Campbell was born May 29, 1943, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Lewis McGraw and Burtha Freeman McGraw Wright. She was a member of Living Waters Ministries, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Harriet and Henderson.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Campbell; sons, Charles William Porter, Sandy Lewis Porter, and Peter Porter.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Lee (Amanda) Porter, Jerry DeWayne (Patricia Ann) Porter; daughter, Amanda Campbell Ledbetter; grandchildren, Chyenne Porter, Jennifer Reece, Leanna Hargrove, Zachary Wells, Ivan Porter, Whitney Porter Miller, and Daniel Wells; great-grandcihldren, Trent Miller, Lexi Miller, Kyrian Miller, Rayden Miller, Elliot Miller, Gracelyn Hargrove, Cainin Hargrove, Heath Porter, Chasta Reese, and Kendel Jones; and great-great-grandchild, Rose Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 19, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Wells and Min. Denise Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Heath Porter, Daniel Wells, Zach Jones, Danny Overbay, and T.J. Miller.

Mrs. Campbell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Betty Sue Junkins Miller, Obit (M)

Mrs. Betty Sue Junkins Miller age 95 of Trion, GA passed away Monday April 15, 2024 at a LaFayette healthcare facility.

Mrs. Miller was born October 13, 1928 in LaFayette, GA to the late Rommie Ciscro and Ruby Ann Gilreath Junkins. She was a lifetime member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She also enjoyed cooking and worked most of her adult life with her brother Eugene at the Attic Shop.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Miller, Jr.; daughter, Jacquelyne S. Wilkinson; and siblings, Ray Junkins, R.C. Junkins, Eugene Junkins, Clifford Junkins, Jack Junkins, Virginia Alexander, Loiuse Elsberry, Bill Junkins, and Charlotte Junkins.

Survivors include her son and son-in-laws Edwin Miller & Michael G. Hudson and Bryan Wilkinson; grandchildren, Micaela S. (Luke) Whaley and Brianna N. Wilkerson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, and great-great nieces & nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Miller will take place at 2:00 PM Wednesday April 17 at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church with Mr. Lamar Fine officiating. Interment will follow at West hill Cemetery with Jimmy Alexander, Clay Howard, Brian Payton, Harry Junkins, Kelly Miller, Dee Spragins, Mike Junkins, and Mark Junkins serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until the service hour at the church.

Howard Loander Glass, Obit (M)

Mr. Howard Loander Glass passed away on April 12, 2024 at the age of 101.

Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances “Louise” Crawford Glass, over 29 years ago. He was also preceded in death by seven siblings; his son, David Eugene Glass; and his grandsons David Eugene Glass, Jr. and his twin.

Mr. Glass is survived by his daughter, Elaine Miller (Vern); his sons, Monroe Glass and Douglas Glass (Kristine); his daughter-in-law, Sherry Glass; his grandchildren, Sylvia Cox (Ralph), Cathy Peterson (Brent), Sarah Ball (Russell “Bobby”), Jerry Lee Hilton, Jr., Erin Weaver (Justin), Shannon Lumley (Chris), Ann Gruber (Dewayne) and Rebecca Sparks (Brian); 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Glass was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his time in the military, he worked in various roles at Mt. Vernon Mills for over 60 years until the age of 87, when he reluctantly retired for the last time. While he loved his work, nothing made him more proud than his family and to see his grandchildren grow up.

He was a charter member of Trion United Methodist Church, and while no longer able to attend, he continued to feel a part as he received his weekly newsletter up until his passing. He enjoyed gardening and the Atlanta Braves, and he was passionate about encouraging others to “get a good education.” Recently, his most favorite thing was his weekly outings to Pick O Deli and Walmart with his granddaughter, Sarah.

The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Hills Square for their care of Mr. Glass in recent years.

A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, at 2:00 pm, at Mason Funeral Home in Summerville, GA, with Dewayne Gruber officiating. Interment will follow the service at West Hill Cemetery in Trion, GA.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm until the time of the service..

Vola Mae (Nana) Wofford, Obit (ER)

MRS. VOLA MAE (NANA) WOFFORD, age 74, of Gaylesville, Alabama, passed away peacefully, with her loving husband, of 55 years by her side Saturday, April 13, 2024, after a long illness. Mrs. Wofford was born on October 3, 1949 in Loudon, Tennessee, a daughter to the late Homer J. and Minnie Simpson Johnson. She was Baptist by Faith and worked for many years in the glove mill industry before leaving to help care for her precious grandchildren. Mrs. Wofford was preceded in death by sisters the late Patricia England and Anna Rae Woodall, and brother, the late Hubert Lynn Johnson.

Surviving are Her husband, Jerry Wofford; daughter, Rhonda (Jeff) White of Gaylesville, Alabama; son-Stanley (Trish) Wofford of Summerville, Georgia; grandsons, , Damion Moore, Devin White, and Destiny White; granddaughters, Hope Wofford and Grace Wofford; Mrs. Wofford was also the great grandmother of Five; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 16th, at 3:30 P.M. from Graveside in Ami Cemetery, Menlo, Georgia, with speakers Tim Smith, Martha Ann Smith, Trish Wofford, and Lamon Ware; Kelsey Johnson singing; Active Pallbearers Damion Moore, Devin White, Destry White, Dallas Moore, Kalen Willingham, Jordan Willingham, and Sebastian Builes.

Steve Johnson, Obit (M)

Mr. Steve Johnson, born August 11, 1962 in Trion, GA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 11, 2024. He was 61 years old and had lived an extraordinary life filled with love and adventure. Throughout his life, Steve touched the hearts of many through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family.

Steve began his career at Mount Vernon Mills where he was employed for 37 years. He continued his career at Labrie for the remainder of his life. In the workplace, he made an indelible impact with his kind and dedicated spirit. His colleagues remember him not only for his professional achievements, but also for his warm personality and ability to bring joy to the workplace through connecting with others.
Steve’s passions extended far beyond his career and home life; he was always active, maintaining his fitness throughout his life. He also spent countless hours as the family historian and regularly maintained contact with extended family.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, William Anderson Powell and Nancy Sue Johnson Powell; and a brother, Alex E. Johnson.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Wright Johnson; his children, Steven Johnson, Shane Johnson, and Ebony Upshaw; his grandson, Zyresse Watkins; siblings, Darryl Powell, Chad Powell, and Anthony Powell; and his mother-in-law, Pearline Willingham. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 20, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in Allgood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Spencer Johnson, Blake Johnson, Tyler Powell, Dan Price, Dangloo Price, and Brennon Price. Honorary pallbearers will be his close co-workers, Tim Christopher and Joey Chaney.

Mr. Johnson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 19, 2024.

Robert Lee Hines, Obit (C)

Mr. Robert Lee Hines, age 42 of Summerville, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at his residence.

Robert was born in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia on April 9, 1982, son of the late Robert H. Hines and Christine Barrett Hines. He was employed with Shaw Industries and was of the Baptist Faith. Robert was a competitive weightlifter, a hard worker and a phenomenal painter and artist. He was very passionate about sports cars and motorcycles. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Rebecca Kay Ledford.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Hines; step-son, Charles Lee Crowe; brother, Jimmy Lee Burrage; mothers-in-law, Kathy Padgett and Connie Padgett; brothers-in-law, Dewey Padgett, William Hotalen and Tony Hotalen; sisters-in-law, Amanda Hotalen, April Hotalen, Debra Hotalen, Shantelle Padgett and Jolene Burgley; and a number of nieces and nephews and additional family members.

Graveside and Interment Services for Robert will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 2:30 P.M. in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Tyrone Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Robert Chitwood, Dewey Padgett, Tommy Wilson, Jackie Garrells, Chuck Ackery, Charles Lee Crowe and Stevie Crowe. Jason Morgan will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Jerry Wayne “Duke” Williams, age 76 of Trion, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Williams was born in Cedartown, Georgia on October 2, 1947, son of the late Clifford Williams and Lenora Daphne Hickman Williams. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills where he worked as an auditor. Mr. Williams helped organize and was very active in the Trion Boy Scout Troop. He loved to play golf, fish and travel, especially to the beach. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a great grandson, Easton Elijah Brown; sisters, Mary Rose Carter, Ruth Grimes, Opal Cox, and Bobbie Smith; and brothers, William Bowman, Gary Young and Jack Bowman.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Pauline Williams; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Melissa Brown and Allen and Angie Brown; sisters, Kathy Newsome and Roxy Davis; grandchildren, Heather Maton Steele, Ryan Brown, Mercedes Brown, Brandon Brown, Shawn Brown, Jessica Brown, Kayla Hall and Kayla Helton; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, retired from Bell South, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam and preceded death by son, Michael Dennis Mason, brother, Danny Mason.

Mr. Billy Joe Simpson age 88 of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Simpson was born May 5, 1935 in Rainsville, AL to the late Robert and Bula Talley Simpson. He was retired from Lyerly Rug Mill and was a Free Mason. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading his Bible, and going to church.

Along with his parents Mr. Simpson is preceded in death by his son, Michael Simpson; and sister, Sharon Morgan.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Simpson; children, Timothy Simpson and Lisa Cordell; grandchildren, Kristy Morgan, Joe Morgan, and Christen Cordell; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Simpson will take place at 1:00 Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. David Dutton and Rev. Jake Morrison officiating. Interment with Masonic Rights will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Joe Morgan, Derek Willingham, Heath Noles, Chris Noles, Adam Hunt, Jeff Kirby, David Long, and Tommy Long serving as pallbearers.
